Heads-on firing was not a safe practice after all ?
Jussi Huotari: It was not specially recommended‚.....
And later, as the Russians were armed with 20mm cannons, it was unwise to meet them heads-on

Too bad that stuff like that is illeagal in Germany, even if they were demilliterized and can't be used anymore, it's forbidden to own them. F*cking Germany!

Do you think the barrels are still good and possibly could be useable. I'd like to build my own .50 caliber varmint rifle from scratch. I know the actions would be destroyed, but the barrel???

OK. I need to stop reading forums. A .50 caliber machine gun is obviously too small to kill varmint.

Why do I keep doing this to myself? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

can they be mounted on any of these (http://www.rcwarbirds.com/miscellaneouspage.htm) do you think?

I have been trying to start a new topic but there is something wrong with the boards?

Why would you ever want one that does not work? It's an ugly piece of black metal. WHOO!

Mortoma, before you build that .50 cal varmint rifle (?????) you might consider the fact that .50 caliber ammo costs at least $2 per round and often much more depending on availability (usually foreign military surplus).

You can blow up prairie dogs a lot cheaper than that http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If you're really determined to own one, buy one off the rack. A home-made .50 sounds very scary to me unless you're John Browning's great grandson.

The Barrett (which the US military finally adopted as a sniper rifle) is very nice. Comes in several models.

Many early WWII Boys .55 cal. anti-tank rifles have been modified to .50 cal and are available (and legal in most states). I have a friend who owns one and, I'll tell ya, you get the attention of everyone on the range when it goes off. First there's the blast and then there's the sight of the gun and the shooter flying several feet backward from the recoil...bring lots of sand bags to hold it down http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Back when I lived in a civilized place with not very restrictive gun laws (Arizona), I used to collect real MGs. I never even considered a .50 because it's just too expensive to shoot.

Good luck.
