I know It is possible to make noseart to some extent(by replacing unit markings on the nose with the art). This is what I am wanting to do, not completley reskin a plane, even though I may want to try sooner or later. Can anyone out there tell me how I would go about this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've written a tutorial about that somewhere.

Anyway, if a nose-art is not too complex, you can also aplly it directly on the skin.

Thank you very much, I am looking forward to putting "Lil' Maggie" on my plane. Made it myself and I am quite pleased. I used to use Noseart from Bilko's Hq, but I lost it and his site isn't up anymore. I loved the "how to bail out" instructions. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I might as well dig it up from my memory.

Basically, you need a BMP file 8-bit color (like the normal aicraft skins) 128X128 pixels in size. If you don't want perfectly square nose-arts, you'll have to have a background colour. This colour should have the exact RGB value's, otherwise it is still just a square. The point is, FB sees a large area of the BMP file in the same colour and makes this area transperant. The best way to make a good BMP file is to first have the picture of your choice in BMP 24 or 32 bit format. Then you add the background colour. You should make it green or grey, that works best when you lower the resolution. When you are completly satisfied, resize your pic to 128X128 and save it in 8Bit colour, BMP format.

You also need a text file to go with it. The textfile should have exactly the same name as the BMP file but, without any file extension. So, if your nose-art file is called "Geshausen-noseart.bmp" then your textfile will be: "Geshausen-noseart" You can make this textfile in windows notepad. Here is a sample of such a text file:

country = us
id = ZZ
gruppeNumber = 1
short = Geshausen noseart
info = Geshausen

at first the line: country, followed by '=' and then two letters. These two letters tells FB for wich country this nose-art is. us= United states, GB= Great Brittain and so on. I'll give you all the codes I know at the bottom of this small tutorial.

I dunno exactly how the "id" and "gruppeNumber" works but, it has something to do with FB, assigning you a registration. These lines are not essential for your nose-art to show up.

The line: "short", will be under wich name the nose-art will show up in FB (the arming screen)In this example, you can select "Geshausen noseart" in your arming screen.

In the last line: "info", you can write anything possbile. I don't know if this line has some kind of character limit but, I always write my own name.

If you wish to select your nose-art for several countries, you will have to make a BMP file and a textfile for each one of the countries. For some dark reason, Oleg hasn't made it possible for one .BMP file to be used for several countries.

Now for the country codes:

DE - Germany
GB - Great Britain
PL - Poland
RO - Romania ?
RU - Russia
US - USA
NN = None
FI = Finland
GB = United Kingdom

In this list, you should note the "nn = none" option. This code is used when you select 'none' as a nation in FB. For instance if you don't want to spoil your skin by letting FB add national symbols to your plane. This is especially ugly when there are allready national symbols on your beautifull skin.

Succes with your nose-art!!

I have tried what you said but I am having some problems. I have done everything right, but the picture isn't showing up in my regiments choices. The only thing I think that might be wrong is when I save I only can choose from 32bit bmp or a 16bit bmp, any help?

1. AFAIK the "nosearts" only work in MP

2. If you cannot set it to 8bit, try programs for photo-editing, like ACDSee or Irfanview. The first one is downloadable as trial and you can resize, convert and set bit-depth easily. Irfanview should be able to do the same.
