Dear staff at UBI,

Please, give me some feedback about any future plans to develop a Malta-based/Mediterranean based sim...I am a proud Maltese citizen and I have read a number of books regarding the fighter pilots that fought here in between 1940 and 1942 (and onwards) during the siege of Malta. I think our history would serve as an EXCELLENT background for a game that would outrun IL-2 in aspects like storyline, drama and fighting against odds (if on the RAF's side!!!)

Should you need further info, i suggest you research books like Malta Spitfire (by George "screwball" Beurling), Onward to Malta (by T.F. Neil), The thorn in Rommel's side (by Laddie Lucas), and several other books that narrate our story. A malta-based sim would be the dream come true for any sim-lover out there, just as the islands offered the "fighter pilot's dream" back those days. name a aircraft,...we probably saw it over malta...

He111, ju88, ju87, Me109, FW190, italian Mc202, Cant bombers, spitfire, beaufighters, gladiatiors and the great spits...all on our 17km rock in the middle of the mediterranean...surrounded by nothing but sea and enemies...

I hope i enticed you and support towards such a sim...thanks anyways. Il2 is great don't worry, got both games!

Fighting against the odds would be right!
Jagdgeschwader 77 slaughtered the RAF over Malta.
My goodness Seigfried Fritag of I/JG77 killed 70 odd RAF aircraft over Malta on his own, let alone the other Luftwaffe fighter pilots getting their share.
Mind you JG77 was specially transferred away from the Russian front to deal with Malta, and the quality of German officer pilot at that particular time was starting to peak.

So you could build a Campaign, with the aces expansion pack, you would have to choose your map carefully.

Just get your JG77 Gruppen arrival in the area right over the campaign.
I/JG77 arrived around June/July 1942, by Christmas 1942 all 3 JG77 Gruppen where active in the area.
Incidently JG77 only flew 109s right through out the war.
S!

Malta was a lynch pin in the Med. The LW may have destroyed dozens of RAF a/c, but it failed to keep the British from bringing Spits in significant numbers, and had to postpone indefinitely the planned airborne assault. Later in the year, Royal Navy ships around Malta destroyed most of the Italian freighters used to supply the Germans in North Africa. As a result, German and Italian forces were left without supplies and oil.

It clearly affected the duration and outcome of the battle in North Africa.

There was also a period where nothing but a handful of Gladiators fended off many times there number over malta. I would love to see that modeled as a mission or campaign. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

See Target:Tobruk (http://www.targetware.net). Just started development, but it's gonna be killer. You'll get your Maltese action in spades, plus North Africa, Tunsia, Sicily and possibly Greece/Crete to boot. And the FMs will be well done, too.

Oleg Maddox said in a recent thread in ORR that 1C planned a Mediterranean add-on post-BoB.
