Hi, all!
The following is a reply that I made to Luckyboy after he saw that I was having an overheating problem, and posted a solution to me (ans some others) in PT. (Lucky, you are a good man, and a good friend, Mate!)

I am posting at the moment with a friend's laptop, and am currently going through FB withdrawl http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Hello, Luckyboy!

Thanks for the info about the cooling system. Let me tell you what was going on:

Upon one overheating episode I opened the case to see if the heat sync needed cleaning. Well, I discovered that the sync and fan were very LOOSE from the AMD64, and when I touched it to see just how loose it was . . . it fell off in my hand! Thinking that it must have come unclamped, I applied new thermal compound, and with the help of a certified tech, remounted the sync. Well, what we discovered next was that the plastic clamps had seemed to have actually stretched in such a way as to render them useless . . . yup, it fell right back off if touched barely at all, and there was not enough pressure from the clamp to ensure a good seal.

I contacted the builder, and was awfully glad that I had purchased a 3 year warranty. I sent the entire tower back to them yesterday, and I will get any damage that may have been caused by this repaired, or replaced. I suspect that the chip may be fried, because the overheating incidents were happening very close together. The service rep that I spoke to said that the mahine was probably sent to me with this problem occuring during the last time that I had shipped it back to them after they sent several bad sticks of ram to me

I must say that when my rig comes back this time, it wil get a very thorough inspection

I appreciate your help, mate, as well as your concern

Let us know how it comes out Tsisqua.

Sheesh, I never buy the extended warranty on things. I always think it's a "gimmick". I may need to rethink that a bit.

Which heatsink are you using? Mine's a Thermaltake AMD K8 Venus 7+. I haven't seen any problems so far, but I've been thinking about getting a better one or water cooling, just to have that extra margin. Good to know your able to solve your problem, though.

Good hunting,

On a system build it's well worth it. Most manufacturers are 1 yr. After that it gets a little rough.

On a side note...did you get power back yet A? Stay safe with the next one headed that way.
