SC Slowdown with DX 9.0a | Forums

When ever I install DX9.0a (currently running 9.0) downloaded from the MS, I get a BIG slowdown in performance, with DX I can run SC @ 1280X1024 32 Bit with ALL settings on Max, super smooth, but with 9.0a even 800X600 is a bit stuttery/jittery at times.
I've also had strange effcets with rain at the end of one level (the one in skyscraper being constructed) only, luckly, after 9.1 was installed.
I've "uninstaled" / downgraded 9.1 to 9.0 using system restore, SC is back up to speed, but 9.1 has not been completely cleenly erased from my system, I get errors in DX Diag under Direct Play (DX 8 reg entries missing) and now DXDiag crashes if I let it test Direct input (with memory refrenced errors).
All this happened since I upgraded to DX 9.1 no probs before.

Directx 9.1? The only new directx is 9.0a. If you're using a 9.1, then that's beta, and you need to install 9,0a.

Okay here's My DXDiag, I get DRASTICALLY reduced performance (only in SC) with 9.0a, if I use System restore to go back to 9.0, everything runs super sweet in SC.

2 things, first update your video card drivers to the Cat. 3.5's from www.ati.com. Next download and install the latest motherboard drivers from your mobo's website.

Cheers for the advice, I'll check if there's some mod 3.5 cats around, as for the Mobo drivers theres three sources, the basic drivers XP (which seem to work fine) the Nvidia drivers (which actually seemed to reduce performance a bit, which i run) and the drivers from shuttle which I really don't want to install conmsidering the problems other people have had with them.
Unfortunatley it's all a little immaterial, considering I've just finished the game (there has SOOOOO got to be an expansion and/or sequel, thats say alto less linear with different ways to finish objectives ala Deus EX)

Just go to the microsoft website, they should still have it on there. I don't believe you can back down from 9.0a, you may have to just do a system restore.

You can't "uninstall" (system restore only partialy works)or "downgrade" direct X "Officialy" according to MS.
But I've found a little prog called (appropriatley enough) "DirectX 9 Uninstaller" U can download it from WWW.WXPERIENCE.DE or WWW.XPNET.INFO it needs your XP install disk to install DX 8 (then you can upgrade to 9 I guess AFTER switching System restore on !!!) I've never tried it though, so I don't know how well it does or doesn't work.
Also, does anyone know where I can get hold of some soft mod drivers for the Rad 9500 (I've a 9700 core & memory) for use with the 3.5 cats, I've got the soft mod for the 3.4's, but can't upgrade the drivers, unless I flash cards firmware (to a 9700 NP, which is what the card really is), which I "NEED" to do, anyone got any deffinitive URL's for these, and how to do it?
