Thread: Port of the Settlers for Linux? | Forums

  1. #1
    Hi Everyone,

First time I write here. I was just wondering if u plan to port Settlers V to Linux? I'm Debian Linux user, and it will be really nice to see this nice game working on Linux . I'm sure lots of people will get pleasantly surprised to see it working on Linux. Excuse me if I'm duplicate this topic.

of course they'd completely have to recode because linux without wine (or variants) cannot use direct x libraries....
but of course a linux version would be great

well they'd have to recode the entire game as linux doesnt run direct x natively, unless they provided wine or winex and made sure it was fully compatible....
though i'm all for a linux version!

Wonder why the game industry doesen't use OpenGL? I don't understand much about game development, but Quake 3 works PERFECT on linux with OpenGL. DOOM3 will work on linux too, as far as I know. Not to mention that OpenGL works on lots of platforms...including *BSD

Who cares about M$? As long as the game works on M$ Winblows, it doesen't matter if it's coded to work with DirectX or OpenGL or any other gfx library. M$ can't prohibit the use of other tools for game development.
