Thread: Chessmaster 9000 freezes. Please help. | Forums

    Hello from Australia.

    Today I purchased Chessmaster 9000.

I have an Athlon with 1 gig memory.

I downloaded and installed the updater patch.

When I run the program, I can play about 15 moves then the program gets slower and slower.

Finally the mouse will slow down and not input anything. Then Chessmaster will move the same piece backwards and forwards.

Control Alt Delete does nothing and all I can do is reset the computer.

Could someone please help me. Thank you.

Also, what is the direct email for customer support.

Many thanks for your help and hooroo for now.

I guess there are many solutions that might help to this problem, but one thing is sure, it's not only Chessmasters fault it freezes.

First, Your OS. If you run Windows 2000 then note that it's not officially supported with Chessmaster 9000 and that may be a reason why it freezes.

It could be a heat problem. Since Chessmaster uses all your CPU your pc can easily be overheated. try cleaning your it from dust, it might help.

And again since Chessmaster uses one heck of system ressources: If you have too many programs open at the same time, that might be the problem. Try closing thoose unnessecary background programs that aren't doing anything.

It could be some program, virus etc that's causing it. You could try doing some virus scans or just Formatting the disk and reinstalling everything, MIGHT help.

I think it's more of a hard drive problem than a chessmaster specific problem. You can try running another very resource demanding program to see if it also freezes.

    Hello FIscher - The 2nd.

Many thanks for your detailed reply.

I am running Windows XP, home edition, with 1 gig of ram.

I did have a heat problem some months back. The computer now has a big heat sink and extra fan and is not overheating.

I have tried running Chessmaster just after booting up, and at the same time closing any little utilities to reduce outside cpu activity so as to allow Chessmaster to do most of the work.

I have a very good virus checking program, which runs daily. It is unlikely that I have a virus.

I believe that my hard disk is in good shape as I check it about once a week.

There aren't any other programs that I use, which cause this problem.

Many thanks for your suggestions, I really would like an email address for support if you know it.

Best wishes to you and your family and bye for now.

    Paul.

Do you have Roxio GoBack? I do and ChessMaster will freeze if it's on.

Hi I have solution for you, as I read in one review of chessmaster 9000 this is well-know problem (but I dont see it in FAQ), you have to change your language settings (small hemisphere in settings) to english - I try English US and everything works fine :-).

This really strange and I dont know why it isnt in FAQ, but it works.

    Bye
