To try to avoid the virus mess of the summer, might I suggest if you haven't updated your antivirus recently you do so now. I not only got a notice but a Warning. This is the first time I've hit seen it hit all three categories hit high!

It is e-mail transmitted and in P2P downloaded.

If you have picked it up a cleaning utensil can be found here: http://www3.ca.com/virusinfo/virus.aspx?ID=38102

Click the link...it describes the worm and has a clean up tool you can run from the net or download.

I came up clean, updated my antivirus and now, since I don't have spam blocked am seeing a ton of the stuff.

Question for anyone who knows -- is there any way to receive virus protection updates for a computer that is *GASP* NOT equipped with an internet connection?

Borrow a computer with Internet access. Go to the antivirus site and download the updates to a disc and then install them on the computer without the access.

Have a friend with a 'net connection download and copy to discs the updates for you. Of course if you don't have a 'net connection then you don't have a high risk of getting viruses. Just becareful of what programs you install.

An anti-virus company may mail you the updates but it'll cost you, and be a week or so behind.

Au contraire, mon cher -- I'm talking about our staff computer at work which is not connected to the internet, but is used by 30 different people, all of whom bring discs from home. It has a virus right now, in fact. Any idea how much space virus-protection updates would take up on a disc? I mean, would they fit on a floppy? If so, we could just download them from my boss's computer and install them on the staff computer every couple of weeks.

The updates shouldn't be too big. So they should fit on a floppy.
Of course this depends on what all is in the update. If it's just virus signatures, then yes, it'll fit on a floppy.
If your boss has a CD/RW drive use it instead.

Unfortunately she doesn't. And I really don't want to do it from my own computer because it would be one more thing I do for work on my own time. But I'll try the floppy disc idea. Thanks, guys.
