Can somebody tell me please if Hedgehog exploded on impact, depth fuse, time fuse or what?
I have seen old WWII footage of this device being used but still dont know how they detonate. They look lethal dont they, what a great inovation at the time, I bet they put the shivers down many a U-Boat commander.

They detonated on impact. Which although they were small charges in comparison to depth charges as they exploded directly on the hull they would usually prove fatel or bring the sub to the surface. There are some links I put in another thread here's the link;
