Thread: Pixel Shader 3.0 and 2.0, Far Cry demonstration | Forums

    One thing I thought was quite interesting, is that most of the effects they have implemented such as the Gravel beach, can be done with pixel shader 2.0! This was said at the demonstration by the CEO of crytek, so hopefully in that patch we will get some of the nice effects with out the NV40 and dx9.0c.

    Ya, the patch will bring the new displacement mapping effects to the cryengine.

    But everyone thinks it can only be done on a 6800 lol! The guy himself said these effects are supported by pixel shader 2.0 and 3.0! LOL.

    No wonder ATI decided to not support 3.0. I think more then anything 3.0 will be a optimizer allowing for more shader operation/instruction and will probablly have some graphical improvements. But there is an overlap in new features.

    Besides, most of the stuff in Pixel Shader 3.0 won't even be tapped until 2006 or later. So getting a a video card capable of PS and VS 3.0 now is rather pointless. Wait till better GPUs are out with faster clock speeds and such.

    i have also made a Post on this on the www.farcry.nl Website here are some Pictures of what Shader 3.0 can do.

    BTW There is a BIG divrence it seems that you dont under stand what Shader3.0 makes posible.

    first there is the Bit Instruction in a Shader 2.0 is limited to 128 instruction lines Now whit Shader 3.0 there are 6885 Instruction in 1 line that makes it posible to wright Way more information in 1 Code line does mean that Shader 3.0 is way more efficinse Thats where ATI is going the wrong way than there are Some other Things that Shader 3.0 can do but most people dont understand what iam saying now so ill stop its just that Shader 3.0 can give the shaders a 150% Boost cause they can handle more information.

    mmm nice....it snice o see the evolution of game grow so fast. First when i saw farcry on a preview video, i was stunned. I thing the future will bring is a good time for us gamers.

    Those are not Shader 2.0 enabled pictures. I get better visuals with my GeForce 4 Ti and it is a Shader 1.1 class card. Everyone knows that, for example, the water does not look that bad in Far Cry.

    We need a TRUE comparison of SM2.0 vs SM3.0...
