Thread: got "hacked" while on multiplayer | Forums

  1. #1
Had a strange experience on RvS multiplayer this weekend. Was playing on a clanserver and one of their members typed "Hello <name>..." on the chat line, where <name> was a very old RvS screen name I used a long time ago. Apparently the guy was able to see some type of history file on my PC. It spooked me a bit; I didn't realize one's machine was open to such exploration while on multiplayer, aside from apps like punkbuster. I asked him how he was able to see that old data, but he refused to reveal how he did it. BTW I'm connected to cable modem via LinkSys router. I've got it reasonably well set up, showing no vulnerabilities using the major online security tests. This doesn't make my system bulletproof, of course, but its set up better than the average home user.

Anyone have info on this, or is it common knowledge and I've been out of the loop for a long time? Curious, and thanks in advance.

don't quote me on this one but i believe he might have been using a program called aliasfinder which is used in conjunction with punkbuster to help combat and deter cheating.

Yup what he did was typed pb_plist in the console got your GUID ran it in aliasfinder and got all the names you have used ingame. Basicly RvS logs on info from anyone that joins any multiplayer server and puts it into a log file. and there are server admins that share these files.
