Thread: joint game creation | Forums

Just had a thought, what gaming companys(the ones that accually make video games) would everyone think or love to see join forces to create a game. Online or single player.

I'll probley get yelled at, but it would be interesting to see Cyan and SOE join forces for a game. SOE has the money and network systems to do alot of the things others can't. maybe Cyan and 989 studios.

So who would you want to join forces to create a online or single player game.

WinXP, AMD Athlon XP 2400+ w/512 meg , Geforce 256 DDR 32megs AGP video.

I would like to see Cyan go back on their own again, but this won't happen.

They need the money and support of other game componies to keep their dreams alive.

I don't want to say anything bad about cyan and Ubi being together so i will just end this conversation here.

    Hi,
Cyan did not publish their own games, at least from Myst and foward - don't know about the kids games they made, before Myst.

    Salgene, all opinions are welcome!

Just pulling out old CDs here... Myst was indeed a collaboration. It was created by Cyan, but published by Broderbund. Riven was published by Red Orb, which was a component of Broderbund, as I recall. The Manhole CD Edition was a Cyan production in its entirety, and I expect that Cosmic Osmo was as well. (Maybe not; I seem to remember an Activision connection in there somewhere.) Not sure about Spelunx and the Caves of Mr. Seudo, as I don't have those CDs immediately to hand. Exile, on the other hand was created by Presto Studios and published by UbiSoft.

Q: "What's even better than playing Uru?"
A: "Playing Uru in stereo 3D!"

I dont think Cyan have what it takes to produce and market a game.
Just let them make it and let someone else handle the marketing.

Get this... they wanted to call Riven just "Riven". When Red Orb said they wanted to add "The Sequel To Myst" they objected, but finally agreed.

WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED if Riven hadn't had "The Sequel To Myst" on it. Nobody would recognise it and it would have sunk as just another Myst clone. However, today it stands proudly as The Sequel To Myst all because of that smart marketing decision.

There are 10 kinds of people in the world: People who know binary and people who don't.

An interesting hypothetical. Personally, I would like to see Blizzard and UbiSoft Montreal join forces. UbiSoft Montreal seems to be a very talented studio; I greatly enjoyed Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time, and it looks like they will do a good job with Myst 4.

As for Blizzard, if you were to ask me what THE best game development studio is, I would have to choose them. To my knowledge, they have NEVER released a poor or even mediocre game; all their titles seem polished far beyond the games of most other companies.
