i think the topic says it all. the reason im posting it here and not in the general discussion forum is because i want to organize and build a full-realis mission, but the navigation (during the mission) and planning (during briefing) will be done using acctual maps of the selected area.
its also possible that some areas are more accurate than others (probably russia and germany).
so- is FB really that accurate? can it be done?
i guess only the developers can answer it,but if someone else knows for sure he is welcome to answer.

    thanks

I cant speak as to how realastic the maps are out of the box. ie. accurate mapping of period roads, railways, bridges, true topography etc. You can though use the "objects" category to add more objects to an already existing feature such as an airfield or fully create your own locations. With a little creativity you can create objects not specifically listed such as dams, docks etc.
This way if you had a good reference you could do your best to recreate a specific spot.
Great aircraft skins are located here:

Using the wide variety of historical skins created for planes and pilots, you can get yet another step closer to "full realistic" by dressing up the machines in their historic colors.
Other than that you can adjust seasons, times, weather units, skill of units etc to build your mission.
Continue to post here if you have questions or run into a particular challenge in your mission building. Folks seem to be pretty creative 'round these parts and more than willing to help.
    one last thing...
    go here:

and check out the FMB 101 postings. Lots of good tips.

The maps were generated (at least in part) from satellite data, so some features wont be accurate. One example is the river at Stalingrad, it was dammed shortly after the war and the Stalingrad map show it considerably wider than it was during the conflict in the area immediately north of Stalingrad.

More or less, yes. If the maps are recent, some of the towns will have different names and be bigger or smaller though. The roads in the game more or less match the major road and rail networks in an old atlas I have.
