I saw this card for a pretty good price and was wondering how it stracks up with todays cards. Any info is really helpful.

It will handle Far Cry fairly well. Best card for your money right now AND a FREE copy of Half Life, 5 Half Life mods, AND HALF LIFE 2!
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
MSI K8T Neo
512MB PC3200 DDR400 Corsair XMSC2PRO Memory
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
160GB 7200 RPM HDD, 8MB Cache
10 80mm LED Case Fans

It kicks ***! I had a MSI 5600FX and was getting poor performance in Halo. Best thing I could've ever done was purchase that 9600XT!!! It was a MIND-BLOWING DIFFERENCE!
It also handles Doom 3 (E3 leak) and Half Life 2 (E3 leak) very well!

actually the best bang for your money would be an ATI Radeon 9800 non-pro.. its around $250 US... if you look around you might even get it at lower prices..
-
IF YOU CAN FIND IT. Are you aware the 9800 Non-Pro is out of production? By the way, if you DO find it, the retail is $200. Get a Radeon 9800 Pro through ATI's Trade Up program, it's only $250!

i tho 9500 and 9700 series only were out of production.

ati's trade up program?
send in your old card and get a new one?

the real bang for the buck are the Radeon 9500 128MB (red PCB, L Shaped memory layout). If you can find them. A few retailers still have them (I got mine at www.allstarshop.com)
Many have had luck moddifying them to behave as Radeon 9700's, and the 9500's go for around $120 right now.
But they are out of production so they can be hard to find.

yes the 9500 pro and 9600 are good cards for the money however in 6 months time they will be outdated. im not saying there not good or anything. I was going to do the same but instead i bought a 9800 np i think this was the best thing i could of done for my pc because its less than double the price yet you get over double performance out of it. They have also been reduced in price due to 9800 xt coming out and the price i got it for 200 quid is now taken up by the 9800 pro. If you have the extra bit of money and you can find one the sapphire radeon 9800np is the way to go.
