    Hi Guys,

Might I introduce myself, I have been playing Sturmovik for some 2 years now and have bought Lock-on due to the obviouse attention to detail. My question is, how does the dog fight work on line as the winner is the one with the far reaching radar? Seems to me that the interaction cannot be as intense. Is online gaming dead already with this sim. If one aircraft has a longer range than a nother how could this work in an online game??

    Regards

It is not a matter of simply getting a lock and launching a missle. The winner is not the one with the most powerful radar. Like dogfighting with guns there are tactics to be employed. Like dogfighting with guns it takes practice and skill to win. And, of course, you can still fight with guns only.

No, online gaming is not dead.

Exactly, so how does it work in online gaming when you either have or do not have an advantage with radar???????

The radars will be about equal after the patch, and at the distance you can launch the greater reaching missles they will be a waste as the target can easily avoid them.

Just because your radar is better doesn't mean you will when. I have shot down many in the f-15 when they were in the 27's. You have to learn how to avoid missiles and use the surrounding areas.

the principles of ACM are the same, it's just that the merge has been pushed back to 10-15km where the planes can exchange missiles. Fients and manouvers still work. The idea is the same. Make your opponent piss away their energy so you have the advantage on them.

I love terrain masking and making those 27's waste all of their missles.

It is not fire and forget in any of the planes, and not to mention the fact that Alt. plays a major factor in whether you show up on their radar at all. Most people like to fly at around 5000ft, so if you are comin in at a much higher alt., alot of times they totally miss you until you are right on top of them. Another advantage is flying low. The missle eff range is alot lower from what I have learned and the masking caused by the terrain can make them lose a lock fairly easily.

A little good flying can fool the radar alot of the time.

I feel that LOMAC online gaming is not dead..in fact its just starting. As was the situation with IL2FB, it will take some time to get the lobby full...maybe after another patch and a few months.
As for the combat, as an experinced IL2 FB pilot i can tell you that there are a lot more tactics involved in LOMAC. No, the winner is not the one who has the most powerful radar but the one who can combine and apply BFM, ACM, radar and weapons employment to its advantage with minimum risks. And belive me, in a 3v3 fight with SAMs shooting at you, youll be in a world of hurt. So go on and buy this game..err, simulation.
    Cheers!
