Thread: Ubi.com In-game Browser - *SERIOUS ISSUES* | Forums

  1. #1
Ok before I start, I will say this. This game is the pinnacle of all things brilliant when it comes to Multiplayer. 2v2 in ANY game is always a ton of fun. The balance is brilliant, the MP Demo map is perfect in that there are no "Choke Points", it's just very heavy cat-and-mouse. I don't think I can recall a single multiplayer game when I've been this tense and feeling this involved, it's in a word: Magnificent.

    ...However

What in GOD'S NAME were Ubisoft thinking with this in-game browser thing? First, you have to log in via Ubi.com, which isn't so bad in itself... but why do Ubisoft insist on controlling every aspect of the multiplayer? You have to log into their central login server, you can't host dedicated servers like you can with Quake 3, Counterstrike, Battlefield 1942 etc, which destroys a LOT of the game. Anyone who has attempted to play this game online knows that you have two options:

You can host a game, and have a pretty decent pingtime... However when you create that game, you want to create it in Lobby #1 (The most populated and thus the easiest lobby to get a game happening)... However, then the Lobby Player Cap kicks in, and if there are a certain amount of games already active at that time (of which the in-game update showing the player count in said lobby is pathetic, it's pretty much worthless being there because it is _NEVER_ correct in what it says), it just boots you to a random lobby. Does it boot you to the next most populated lobby? No. Does it tell you what lobby your game is actually in once you create? No.

Then there's the old "oh this game only has 1/4 people in it! When you try to join, the game is either full or NOT THERE. Call me unlucky, but every time I have tried to use the "Auto-Search feature", or tried to join someone's game from the actual browser, it has NEVER let me in. Ever. I've played a good 16 hours of pure online play of this game, and not once was I able to join someone else's game, it was sheer luck of the draw that other people saw my game in Lobby #1 and joined. Like I said previously, the updating of the server's individual stats might as well not be there, because those figures are never, ever, ever, ever, EVER correct. Ping time of 30? Try 330. 1/4 players? try 4/4 players.

Honestly, the game would be so, so, so, so much better if it was released with some form of Dedicated Server software so we could alleviate this AWFUL problem (Which it is. I have sat for up to 90 minutes sometimes just attempting to join games.)

Now please everyone understand, I'm not taking a stab at Ubisoft. This game, like I said, is brilliant, it's the best Multiplayer game I have played in my 7+ years of Online Gaming... That is, provided you can actually JOIN OR CREATE A GAME.

The only thing this game would need to make it the "Next Best Thing" in terms of Competitive Multiplayer Gaming would be: A company that listens to their playerbase. I don't think that there is a single tech-savvy person on this planet that wouldn't agree with me when I say that Dedicated Server software is far easier to use and easier to co-ordinate that a single, central online server.

But either way, here's hoping Ubi can see their mishap, release some Dedicated Server software, and listen to what the community has to say in regards to game balance, and new ideas, and then regularly update the game to include these new features (such as Counter-Strike did throughout all of it's versions).

Once again all. This is *NOT* an attack on Ubisoft. Their game is flawless, utterly flawless... their implementation of online multiplayer is the only pathetic part. Fix this and you have the closest thing to gaming perfection that will have ever been seen to date.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. Even the crappiest in-game browsers that I have seen in the crappiest games online have at least allowed you to Specify a server, or at least SEARCH for a server. Pandora Tomorrow offers neither of these standard features. I mean wtf?

I totally agree the in game server is awful. It needs to actually tell you the truth about servers.

    10 minutes?

    consider yourself lucky mate.

I've had to wait 30 minutes myself to join a game.

Good thing I got an Xbox...

Hehe shan4, I'm afraid to say that is no word of a lie

Either you got lucky, or I got unlucky, but that is currently my longest wait time for either joining a game, or having other people join my game (of which I can't tell my friends to search for, or look for due to: No search function, and after hitting the "Create" button, not knowing what lobby your game is in after that).

I sincerely hope that Ubisoft listens to us and hears what we ALL want. If they implement an easier way of finding / joining games (IE: Dedicated Servers would be the #1 first step), then things would be 100% better than they are now.
