Far Cry 3 Hard Crash & Blue Screen - Possible Solution.......

    Hi Guys,
After suffering various hard crashes and blue screens while playing Far Cry 3 on PC with a Geforce 680 GTX, I noticed this article from n4g.com .......
    Quote :
Far Cry 3 - Offloading graphical effects to the CPU, differences between PC and console builds

DSOGaming writes: "Rage3D’s member ‘Napoleonic’ has spotted an interesting PDF from Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3 GDC 2012 presentation. In this presentation, Ubisoft has highlighted the differences between the PC and the console builds of Far Cry 3, and revealed that some of the graphical effects will be offloaded to the CPU in order to save some additional GPU cycles." (Far Cry 3, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
Now as you may have guessed, this offload routine was implemented in order to optimize the game to consoles. It’s well known that current generation consoles cannot push great visuals unless developers offload a number of GPU instructions to the CPU (SPU for PS3). The problem here is that the PC version will most probably suffer from this particular console optimization.
    END.

So, guess what ? Go into Nvidia Control Panel and click 3D Settings - Configure Surround, PhysX and set your PhysX settings to CPU and NOT your Graphics Card GPU.
Played for the last 2.5 hours and not one crash with all settings maxed, latest Nvidia Drivers etc.
Hope this helps someone, please post your results....
    Thanks

Sadly It did not help for my problem of the semi infinite loadscreen with freezes and sound looping.

Hope it can fix something for somebody else though.

Actually in the end it didn't help me either, reverted back. But just tried Nvidia Driver version 306.23 ( older driver - the one I had installed when I first ran the game ) and not had a crash yet. Ultra settings are not a problem either, strange. Happy for a while , I guess.

I also had a blue screen crash on start up so couldn't even play the game and that was after installing the 261 Meg patch. I have a 120 gig SSD hard drive for my system files & some games which i firstly installed farcry 3 on and 1 TB drive for everything else (photos, movie's & music). After crash I thought I would try installing on the 1TB drive and Yayy all working now so far.. so if you have a second hard drive try that.. running win 7 Enterprise / Ultimate 64 bit 16gig ripjaw ram, 2gig sapphire video, Asusrock 990fx motherboard.. hope this helps someone install on secondary hardrive ,now i'll try doing the same with bioshock 2 as did the same thing..

Thanks. I managed to get from the loading screen to seeing most of the Ubisoft logo animation.
Furthest I've got in two days of trying before it froze and blue screened.
