Sound off, I would like to know. I hate the idea. I think it will cheapen the concept and weaken the story. The WHOLE point of Sam Fisher was that he could take on a whole country by himself when the likes of the CIA only got themselves killed.

On a more geeky note, I ask: why? What will it add to the app that I can't get somewhere else? Nothing that I can see.

While I applaud the devs seeming to want to make their users happy, in this case I must say they should have told you guys to stick it. The Third Eschelon (at least my understanding) was all about super *** kickers. Guys who didn't need teams. Sam Fisher relying on someone else to complete an objective??!?! Just doesn't seem to fit.

Ah well, what do you guys think?

Sure it would be fun...but so is doing drugs, that don't make it good.

Seriously, how will it be any different from any other multi-player game?

Second, I don't think it would really be that fun. Do you know how much time I spent just doing recon and watching guards and stuff like that. You would have very little fun waiting for my overly-cautious butt.

The "it is fun" argument doesn't really do it for me. There are so, so many other games that I have TONS of fun playing multi-player, that it would take much more than that to sell it for me. Plus, I really don't think it would be that much fun. Seriously. Sooooooo much of the game is built around tension and suspense. I think with multi-player it would take a LOT of that away...then, you are left with a shooter. NO, please no!!!

By it's very nature, Splinter Cell is really not designed to be a multiplayer game, much less a first person perspective game. By design, Splinter Cell is contingent on the player to be able to see the character and how he fits into the environment. In a first person perspective that is no longer possible. Also, I know that online multiplayer is a growing genre. But do we really need every single game to be online capable? There are already countless other games that have co-op, deathmatch and capture the flag modes. If Splinter Cell is not going to bring something different to online then why bother? Why make a game online capable when it's not going to benefit from it?

If anyone remembers or didn't play it, in Metal Gear Solid Substance there is a group first person missions. After playing those group of missions you see how badly first person works for a game of this type. Metal Gear is a unique game, but in first person mode it quickly degenerated into just another run of the mill shooter. And that's one thing I wouldn't want to see any of these games become.

I'm all for Multiplayer. The only thing I can say more is they should have had it in the first one.

I do think it is believable, though I'll get to that later... for now, lets think of it from the publisher's perspective. I personally know close to a dozen people who said the only reason they didn't buy it was because it didn't have multiplayer. I'd have to say that Splinter Cell is much better than Battlefield 1942, but I like Battlefield because in that game I can play with my friends. We'll be playing, and coordinating moves and attacks - much more strategy than you'd ever get out of single player - , as well as talking about other things. It's not like you'd have a friend over so that you could each play a single player game... you have friends over to play multiplayer games, where you can work together to do the extrodinary - far more than you'd ever be capable of doing in real life.

Furthermore, Sam Fisher is not part of the Shadow Nets, or whatever they're calling them. It takes several of these people do to what Sam can do, and while Sam is away on other missions, it's not like you'll just send in Ding Chavez and see if he can't do it. You'd need to fill the void left by Sam with several operatives. Not to mention, I find it ironically convenient that there always happens to be an open window or ledge within jumping height. Now if one person helped the other person climb higher, that's more understandable, but its not too understandable that everything just happens to be at 8-10 feet, which one man could quite easily get to by himself, without help.

And about Splinter Cell turning into a First Person Shooter, its only that if you make it that. Even in the original one, its easy to run around holding the trigger, then just using the Ammo cheat to get a full clip again. That's no different from any other game, is it? But Splinter Cell IS different... Well, the thing is, Splinter Cell isn't strictly a "covert ops" game - meaning if you really want to, you can just run around and kill people, though it wasn't designed for that - but Splinter Cell allows for you to, if you want to, that is, go covert.

That's the thing; other games don't really allow you to play stealth. They are strictly shooters. Well, almost any game can be turned into a First Person Shooter, and I agree that Pandora Tomorrow may become one, but based on its premise and the wide array of moves provided, it also appears that there will be the option of sneaking up stealthily. Sure, you could try to do that in other games, but none near as advanced as Splinter Cell. Splinter Cell just allows for more - what it really is depends on how you play it.

Lets see, most people are still in favor of it, Ubisoft is sure to make money off of it, and it will gain a lot of recognition for Ubisoft being the first game manufacturer to make a multiplayer game in this genre, not to mention that it CAN work; so why wouldn't they make it?

All good points. However I disagree with a few things.

You say you knew at least a dozen or so people who did not buy Splinter Cell because it had no multiplayer mode. Well I imagine that there are alot of people who didn't buy Grand Theft Auto 3 or Vice City because it didn't have a multiplayer mode. Heck, alot of people said they didn't like those games because they couldn't play in first person either. But that does not mean those aren't great games. It's not about having a multiplayer mode or not having a multiplayer mode. For myself at least, it's about how you USE the multiplayer mode. If it's going to be more of the same old same old ( deathmatch, co-op, and capture the flag) then I really could not care less about multiplayer. You're not giving me anything different than what's already out there in games like Operation Flashpoint, Rainbow Six, or what have you. There are plenty of good online multiplayer games out there already. Do we really need another one?

I agree that by it's very nature, Third Echelon would have more operatives than just Sam Fisher. And perhaps multiplayer is a good way to introduce some of them. If you are going to have Splinter Cell become a franchise then you might want to get people with more characters in the series. I think eventually we might see another character in a Splinter Cell game other than Sam Fisher.

The Stealth based game genre is designed so that you must use the environment and not be seen. And so using the environment means you'd have to be able to see how the character fits into the environment. Again I use the example of Metal Gear Solid Substance's first person mode. Absolutley horrible!!! The game was not designed to be played like that and as a result those were the least enjoyable missions to play.

Being a PS2 owner, it's still uncertain that my version will include multiplayer. My main concern is will the single player game suffer because everyone is so caught up in the multiplayer aspect.
