I love exploration and watching beautiful scenery. But I will use fast travel when needed.

Well, during the 14 minute PAX demo, the guy says "this is about 1/20th of the in game world." Now, i'm not sure if he means the 1/20th is the whole white area, or if the highlighted he played on was the 1/20th.

If the whole white area is the 1/20th of the map, then i'm not doubting it being 10 times far cry 2. 500km squared kms. Thats 193 Sq miles. Just Cause 2 was 400 Sq miles. I'd say consoles can handle big maps.

Trust me, Skyrim was about 20 or so Square miles, so if Far Cry 3 is actually 10 times Far Cry 2, the 193 Sq miles, then it will be unbelievably massive. Decemeber is just sooooo far away!!!

Well Just Cause 2 had 400 Sq miles but the graphics were only decent and the story was so lame.

But it was still so very fun
Nothing quite like pulling a giant construction crane down with your mid-size sedan.

I doubt it will be over 10-20 square miles, (on a plane, not counting caves, mountains, canyons, etc.) but that's just me. In any case, the game is going to be fantastic

Of course it was.JC2 is the game that I had the most fun playing it.I loved it!
But somehow I doubt that Ubisoft will ditch great graphics for a 500 Sq miles map.FC3 is an AAA title,so it must have great graphics, story and gameplay otherwise it would be a solid game.

there is only so much time that level designers can put into designing every bit of an island. the bigger the location - the less time there is to put into each part of it.
far cry 2 had a good size, IMO, but a lot of it was blocked by mountains and the type of foliage and vegetation looked the same everywere so it was recycled and not that detailed. but it fit africa.
Far cry 3 looks more detailed than FC2 ever was and to achieve that look they must have gone into close ups of many locations of the map to hand place objects.
just cause 2 was a lot less detailed and that's how they achieved such a large scale world. but the gamepaly of JC2 was also more grand and not slow, specific and in 1st person. it was a lot different.

i think that if FC3 will have a map the size of Skyrim i will be very happy. skyrim had a good sized map, though it felt a lot bigger cuz it had more than 150 indoor locations like caves and castles etc. FC3 wont have nearly as many.
