Stealth games capture the drama better because they respect the danger of the situation. That's why entertainment focusses on these extremely high threat situations, because there should be some HIGH THREAT to add tension and make things interesting. Stealth games say 'Yes, this is an incredibly high threat situation and if you expose yourself and get seen, those people will kill you immediately'....and you can't just press the "I WIN" button to defeat them
    Nah...not for me

Stealth games are also very empowering and IMO their allure lies in the fact that they tap into the caveman hunter instincts. For me anyway. I never enjoyed being put in forced stressful situations but I looooved it when I was left alone in the darkness with unaware AI. It was absolutely thrilling to have an AI in my sights and the fate of his next 5 minutes in my virtual hands. That is why I feel that CT resonated so deeply with me. It was that emphasis on being the lone, silent stalker emphasized by the closer than ever animations.

In stealth games I always felt like the hunter...never the prey as most stealth games WANT you to feel.

Haven't seen the vid though Youtube is effed in the office...yes we work saturdays as well

Totally agree, though it depends on the game. In games like Splinter Cell and The Chronicles of Rid**** you usually have the tactical advantage over the enemy and the element of surprise, but if you ever run straight into a group of enemies you will be killed for sure. It gives you a sense of empowerment as well as making you aware of the danger of acting without thinking. I disagree that most stealth games make you feel like the prey (I consider most stealth games scary in a way) but some games simply agonize the player by instilling a feeling of vulnerability and helplessness. The best example by far of this is Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which I consider one of the greatest stealth games ever made. Play it if you haven't and you will know what being the prey feels like. Very humbling stealth experience if you're only used to SC stealth.

Our ideas should serve as an inspiration for Ubisoft Torronto with new and innovative features in the right direction for Blacklist: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...e-in-Blacklist

We need a purist mode similar to what Hitman: Absolution have, but with our rules: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...40#post8582940

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...list-Checklist Please support the checklist and hopefully Ubisoft will see the massive amounts of people who want to see certain, key features implemented.

Ubisoft... please add in a true variable speed system with an integrated sound system and if you have the time...other abilities, gadgets, and things from the first SC games such as split jump, etc.

I never felt like the prey. I always felt like the one having the moment of surprise, being the ultimate predator but I respected the danger of the situation. What the games made wrong (at least the first two) is that the game forced you "one path". Let the player use the tools available in SC, because it has enough Action tools but you couldn't use them properly. The problem was never these situations that respected the danger but the features which were "dumped down" intentionally to force the player to use more defensive features. The respect of danger has to come back and with proper Aggro Stealth such situations may push your adrenaline pretty high and the classic player will have tense situations stalking down the NPCs. The one who decides to play very actiony won't just have to deal with those consequences and learn to respect that danger, he will be required to play more tactically and more intelligent.

That's odd! You're talking about stealth definition and Stealth Jam video, but nobody mentioned the result - Stealth Jam games.

There is also Gunpoint. It does look really cool too and somehow it has that retro feel, maybe because of 2D, not sure. All thanks to SneakyBatards, which seems to be a very good source for Stealth Games.

And something I notice about Stealth Games is that they always balance out that "serious" tone with some good funny moments. It requires you to think and it challenges your patience/concentration, but it always has these moments which give you the feeling of relief, like the dialouges in SC.
