I am using the the newness of the bass lines and the fun of the game to push me through the grind. If I was just learning a setlist for a gig I would have resorted to a pick already (which I already know how to do - more or less).
Once I get the fingerstyle down, I can't wait to learn slap.
Heck, you're already a drummer, time to complete the set.
Besides having a Bass around the house is great for doing your own recordings, backing tracks etc.
Have I taunted you enough for one day?
    I also play keys

Yeah, I should get a bass. I'm just such a horrible consumer. I can never actually buy anything - still looking for a new guitar. The whole paradox of choice is in full effect and I have very limited time to really spend looking and thinking about it. I have done a few cursory looks at craisglist, but haven't seen something I really want to get yet. I am keeping an eye out, but getting to a store is pretty much impossible for me given the hours I'm working these days.

You're not kidding. There is a Nirvana song that, if played efficiently, has you bend the E string with your pinky like 50+ times. Needless to say, that and the later half of Hangar 18 are the most brutal pinky workouts I've ever had!

The physical sensation of a bass guitar is very different. Much more physical. The stings are very thick, the instrument is longer and heavier.
I just love the way the whole instument vibrates when playing the open E string!
