Just so this is less confusing for anyone reading the thread : there are 2 different Uplay.
There's Uplay the DRM, which was extremely annoying and unnecessary. The twitter message confirmed Rocksmith didn't include the Uplay DRM.
Now there's Uplay the client/digital distribution platform, which is similar to Steam. (but with less features, only very recently launched)

When I asked them if the game included Uplay Ubisoft hadn't launched the client yet, so it's possible that even tho they said "No" the game will eventually be added to Uplay-client as an alternative to Steam. It's even likely since they make more money by selling the game themselves compared to selling it through Steam. Offering the alternative doesn't really hurt anybody (unless having your game on the platform requires that you also use the DRM? I'm not aware if this is a requirement) and could earn them a few more bucks.

I'm gonna try asking on twitter if they're planning to add the game to the Uplay-client, but considering how it only very recently launched I wouldn't be surprised if no one knew 100% for sure what will happen.

For the time being, I guess the answer would be : Uplay-DRM = No. Uplay-client = Time will tell. (I expect yes, but we'll see.)

Don't know how Uplay works, but Steam games, besides downloading, you can buy the disc based version and activate them on Steam. That may be the reason, as you're going to have to buy a physical copy of the game, so you can get the cable. Unless they have plans to sell it digitally via Steam without the cable?

Would be good if it was. I already own an imported PS3 copy, I plan to get it on 360 next month when it's released here, if it's download only, I'd be able to get it on PC too, without the wife giving me grief - "Why do you need a third copy of the same game?"
