    Almost unlimited lives

I hope I'm putting this in the right forum now with the re-org... If not feel free to put it where it belongs.

I did some testing last night to check on something that I thought I saw happen with the new patch using the set speed option. I was pretty sure I played through a section without losing a life when I had the speed locked in. I verified last night and got a bit of clarification on what I saw. It appears that if you "successfully" play a section while the speed is locked, not only does it not kick you out, you do not lose a life. (Just like when using the normal acceleration, you will increase the speed and not lose a life.)

So... this means that it is technically possible to have an unlimited number of lives. All you need to do is set the speed to a level that you can consistently complete the section at successfully and you could sit there playing it as long as you want.

Just thought I'd share my findings as I haven't seen this posted yet. (Although, I've had less time to lurk lately so it may be buried somewhere.)

Nice find! I've heard many great musicians say that you should play it correctly 10 times before bumping up in speed, so this would definitely be do-able given what you've stumbled upon. Thanks!

You can also reset the lives to 30 hitting the start button and selecting "Restart". When the riff starts over, you'll have all 30 lives.

And for the record, manually setting speed and mastery and being able to easily get around the lives limit now makes this a real practice tool. I spent a lot of time last night in accelerator working out fingering to a solo and it was awesome to be able to control the speed. What would make it even better would be the ability to set the start and stop location of the riff you want to work on.

Ooooh, yes - looping would be cool. We should add that to the wishlist.

I noticed this as well, it is truly awesome.

The only problem is that in 'set speed' mode the riff still restarts if you get too many notes wrong

for some of the longer solo riffs with lots of bends that aren't properly registered (unless you really exaggerate the bend), this is hell as you can't really practice the riff and learn it properly.

Oh yes you can, slow the speed down to a crawl in accelerator, i.e:- 25% and you should be able to hit every note correctly ! That would be a real Drag of course, but it is do-able.

Sure, good point. But as you said yourself it's a major drag to have to play at 25% where both falling asleep and learning the riff are equally probable.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we shouldn't be forced to play the section perfectly when in practice mode. Practice mode should allow us to make mistakes and practice however we want at whatever speed and difficulty we want, and not just for single riffs but the whole song. Practice mode (where we can do whatever we want) and performance mode (where the game judges us and scores us) should be two entirely different components of the game, but unfortunately at the moment practice mode is in a sense a performance mode where we are judged and penalized for not doing things correctly.

Anyway I'll stop talking about this here since this isn't the feedback thread

I agree that it would be nice if they took out the part where it kicks you out of you get too many notes wrong. However, I suppose one could argue that if you are getting that many notes wrong you should slow it down some. It still would be annoying on those long multi-block riffs like Solo 2 of Sweet Home Alabama.
