Welp, I finally went and bought it.

I put off buying/trying IL2 Clod for the following reasons.

    1. It wasn't a working game when it shipped.
    2. I didn't have the patience, time or rig powerfull enough to run it when launched.
    3. I wanted to wait till a couple of patch cycles went through.
    4. I HATE the idea of STEAM, GameStop and every other online verification schemes. I've paid for EVERY game I've ever played except "Doom". Who Steam to question my honesty?

Well all the above have been met or changed except item 4. I still hate Steam even though I use it. It's almost impossible to play Steam based games off-line without going through a mile of hoops. But enough about that. I scored a copy of CloD of $8.00 off the bay. Went through Steam which I will give credit to, updated the game seamlessly. I'm having a hard time getting my Cougar HOTAS sorted out with it so I've yet to try combat but today or tomorrow I'll go looking for Jerry.

My current rig runs the game well on "high" with little stutter over land. Game looks "good" but not all that much better than IL2 46' if'n you ask me. Perhaps my feelings will change with time. Right now it's just something to mess with while I'm catching up on FPS I didn't have the rig to run bout 4 to 5 years ago. I'll post my impressions as they roll out.

welcome worf. i too am a long time IL2 player. just bought clod last week via steam. there is a beta patch avail (1.08 i think as steam is still at 1.05 i think). i have a saitek x52 and am also haveing a hard time gettting controls set. i have made some progress. steam isnt so bad, dont have to worry about scratched cd's anymore. lots of you tube videos on start ups for various planes, helped me alot. i am sure there is a steep learning curve. keep us updated.

I picked it up on Amazon recently after deciding that even with the bugs and reported problems, it was worth purchasing at its current price. It was selling for less than $8.00 briefly on Amazon. It's now up to $11.47. I just installed it last night without any problems but have yet to get it to recognize my joystick (Logitech Extreme 3D) and trackIR (IV). Hopefully getting it to recognize my controls and properly configured wont be too much of a problem...

    Cheers!

Well, $8.00 seems about right for the amount of enjoyable flight time I'm able to get between software crashes. I am very glad that I didn't pay the full list price for this software. I also found it interesting to see that the most recent Steam "News" for Cliffs of Dover is the patch from October 2011, nearly a year ago. The game clearly has great potential, and is fun when it's working. Hopefully the ratio of functional software to bugs will be improved upon.
