    forced to be online?! wtf

    I'm a big fan of settlers since version 1 (skipped the last 2) and I really like version 7, so please don't get me wrong, but I cant' help saying:

    <sarcasm>
    Yes, I REALLY wanted to be a member of ANOTHER online gaming community, and please put some more of that NICE FACEBOOK LIKE buttons everywhere!
    </sarcasm>

    And now to my question:

    Is there any way to get rid of that need beeing online? If not Ill probably return the game.

    thx

    Hello ymris

    Once you have gone through the initial online activation of the game you can select the option to only play the game in Offline Mode. To do this you will want to click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the UPlay PC Launcher screen. This is before launching the game. The gear icon will be next to your profile name. You will see an option to check the "Always start Uplay in Offline Mode." Once this is selected you do not need to be online to play the game.

    You gotta love when a official Ubisoft support staff member dont know how their own software works. Settlers 7 DO NOT work in offline mode. All you get is this msg....

    "Uplay is in offline mode. Some games and services are only available in online mode. Please enter online mode to access all Uplay features. !

    I actually loved that people had to be online. I really gave me a feeling of being part of a community.

    Sadly, (for me) I can't connect to the game anymore and I am really going to miss all the players that had become (in my mind) such precious friends.

    You can't even see your games when you are offline in uplay, so no help.
    How am I supposed to play when there's no connection available? This is rediculous.

    Good that you enjoyed that, but I do prefer to choose the communities I would like to join
    I will play online too, but also often offline.

    What I really don't like is to to be forced by some developers, that obviously don't see any other way to realize protection than to bother honest customers.
    If thats ubisofts future, then this is good bye to ubisoft games for me.

    First, let me say my game is working again. Seems that the routers (provided by my ISP) made by Netcomm were somehow interfering with the game. Because when I got a different brand of router - a ZTE made in China also provided by my ISP - everything started working again, even my first account which mostly worked but would not load new skirmish maps.

    Now the Important stuff. It seems Ubisoft has made a decision to remove DRM from all their games. If it can ever be removed from Settlers 7, I wonder how long it will take. I have noticed that the loading process is shorter than it used to be, also PAUSE has become very unstable and often gives me the "unable to connect- save your game" box when I end the pause. So they must be doing something.

    If any one notices OFFLINE mode working, please post.

    Does anyone have any idea if removing the DRM will make it easier for players to connect when we are online? Hopefully shortening my search times for Empire games.

    The Settlers is being worked on to update the game to bring it in line with our updated policy.
