Stargate SG-1 Fans, what do you think?

A game was in the making (Stargate SG-1: The Alliance) but was stopped in the middle for multiple reasons. That was a while ago. Since then, no news. "Many" games were made but none really major or "official"
From my point of view, the subject had potential... it could be a very nice shooter. But the task was given to a "no name" and was lost in the chaotic world of gaming.
I always thought Ubi would have been the best to create this kind of game, the best to create a shooter worth the franchise.

Ubi, you should get in the project!

Stargate shooter? Bah. I'd never buy such thing as it would be an utter crap.

Stargate RPG on the other hand... Okay you can't just have 87356834765874 skills and abilities to "upgrade", but a few you can plus the story can be rich and epic... Imagine possibilities of side quests on different planets you go... And it's DLC friendly! Developers could make a new DLC for a new set of coordinates every week. Hell why developers, with a game editor community could be making those! I'd definetly buy that one.

And yes I'm SG1 fan, Atlantis fan, Stargate first and both direct-to-video movies fan, but I despise Universe.

That'd be a might large development and test team. Model making is time consuming, model testing is time consuming. Weekly DLC on a graphically complex game with any sort of environmental interaction more complex than simple collision detection would be impossible without a staff of hundreds working on the content. Economically I suspect it's not possible at all.

With careful planning, it might be possible to use community sourced DLC in a RPG style game, but there'd still need to be some well tested scheme for controlling how the content was introduced and distributed to the "standard" world set.

I exaggerated and you could notice I'm doing that when I typed "87356834765874".
Of course it wouldn't be possible to DLC every week.
But the setting is so rich that designing a DLC doesn't mean one per year-two.

My guess are that you are not a fan of shooters....
That its your right... as I am not, really not, a fan of RPGs... yet, the type of game it would make based on the episodes would or should be not only of shooting but strategies and "puzzles".

It's not about shooting, it's about Stargate in general. Throughout series a new technologies are discovered and the team is improving with "skills" all the time. Not just combat skills, if you compare the first season with later ones, you'll notice that series contain more and more humor as they progress. SG1 story is not some short one, each new season closes some branches but brings many new ones. You forgot that even after 10 seasons a couple of plots left open had to be closed by two direct-to-DVD movies.

Of course, you may make a brainless shooting game, but would that game deserve a Stargate title really? Would you seriously buy a generic "been there, done that" shooter just because it's called "Stargate"? I certainly would not.

I think I'd rather see something like this coming from a company who actually provide SUPPORT for their products to their customers.

Apparently, that's too much for Ubisoft to manage.
