Thread: UAV complainers! | Forums

    Unhappy UAV complainers!

I have noticed there have been some complaints about where engineers are choosing to deploy the uav from.

Apparently we are deploying our uav's from too far back.

I dont follow the logic behind this complaint.

Why wouldn't I try and find the safest possible place to deploy from.

Because once i deploy the uav my character is basically a sitting duck,

and I for one am not going to leave myself open to a bullet in the back just because some people can't

see how helpful the uav can be for everyone on the team. spotting etc...

next time you seen an engineer hiding in the bushes, think for a minute before deciding that they are a camper.

chances are you will end up killing an enemy he has highlighted for you.

People use the UAV still? I thought everyone knew that the Field Computer is the most broken thing in this entire game, and now that we all have respec tokens, there's no reason to still have a UAV. A Field Computer gets you so much more experience for your time. Not only do you still get to run around while using it, but you get to hack people, which is 150 stun, 750 hack, 150 stun, 75 kill, 500-800 coordinated kill, and 200-300 per assist from people who have been detected by it. All this while still running around getting kills AND being able to get objectives faster. It's the best thing in this entire game, by far.

OMG, now they will take away the UAV's because someone must be getting whacked alot, due to a spotting engineer. *rolls eyes*

The UAV moves so fast that I don't see why people would have a problem deploying it close to spawn. That really is the best place...

Also, on the minimap you turn into a green box when you have one deployed. People seem to not know this and think any person sitting on the floor is camping.

like I said , I agree, its the best place to deploy. Safest anyway.

I think some teammates think you aren't close enough to the action. Or that you aren't helping or something.

Using it close to all the commotion is fun too though. Just more deadly and also you have to switch back and forth from uav to your character a lot more.

What I am noticing quite often is that even when I highlighting enemies very nearby , people dont seem to notice.

It sucks when you watch one solitary enemy flanker take out four teammates from behind, even though you have had him spotted or highlighted well in advance.

Then again, many times there is so much going on that you dont always notice stuff right in front of you.

As for camping, I've never really understood that whole thing. I havent played much recon/sniper class, but I see they often are accused of being campers.

And if you really think about it ,thats kind of a ridiculous point of view. In some ways, it is their job. To be that guy who just pops up out of nowhere from behind or from afar.

The only downside to being far back from the action is, IF your 2 team mates in your fireteam die, and they have to respawn on you, you're far far back right? :P

Relevance/Utility of UAV is map dependent, but it is still very (contextually) useful.

    Play "recon" engineer with UAV.

Push up to the engagement, and hang at the backlines.
Deploy UAV to spot, but find a good spot to park it (spotting a coordioor, blind spot, etc) - ideally someplace difficult to see
Frequently jump back into UAV control to check
by staying at the backlines of the engagement you are an excellent mobile spawn point for more "active" (i..e. frontlines) teammates.
Leave the data computer to the other Engi (the assault/frontlines engi) - you dont need 2 UAVs, but you dont need 2 field computers either.

There are 3-4 ways the UAV engi can be useful, but if you launch it from near the spawn, you are only doing one of these things (spotting), which is annoying to teammates who could use the fire support, a better spawn point, etc.

I understand what your saying, however, when you hang out in the spawn and launch your UAV, there are 2 things that can pose a problem.

1)Your a hack risk. Your all alone near spawn, and if the enemy finds you, boom, gone.

    2) While you ARE helping your team by calling out people, you should REALLY be more closer to half way up the map. The enemy expects you to be in spawn with a UAV, not in the middle.

3)Spawn point. My team who flies a UAV is always in a position that poses a great spawn point.

    Pretty much this.

Keeping close to the action (other players) is not only the safest place to be, but also you can move on objectives as well as spot.

People are often way to precious with their UAV, park it in a useful spot while you move up, if it gets shot down so what, you will likely be getting a new one often enough.

    thanks for all the feedback.

In hindsight, I think it is quite possible that I might be guilty of being way too precious with my UAV.

In future I'll be attempting a more aggressive strategy perhaps.
