might be cool if you could by a pass for a set amount of songs at a discount then pick and choose what you want as you go. That way, ubi could get the capitol up front to aquire more licenses.

(I am aware this is off topic from the original post, so sorry in advance)

Gotcha. But wouldn't you want 'gear and tech talk' to be focused on tech and gear?

Right now we don't have a 'General', 'Other Stuff", or 'Off Topic' sub-forum, so if something is put in the guitar or bass forums but is not related to tech specifically it might be better to just leave it. Otherwise you implicitly turn the tech talk sub-forum into "Gear, Tech Talk, and Other Random Stuff" in which case that's what we should name it

Clearly this is just my opinion, and I'm not saying this was a bad call or anything, I'm just saying this particular thread doesn't sound related to Gear and Tech which is the title of this sub forum

I've been thinking the same thing ever since the implementation of the subforums. To me gear and tech = software and hardware related t guitar, and maybe in game bugs considering the nature of the game. I figure general Rocksmith stuff should get it's own subforums and bugs should then go under that.

If I dislike music I don't want that band making money on my subscription. I'd rather pay more and support artists I appreciate.

The only thing good about this is that it would allow lesser known bands to ease into the mix, which I'm all for, but not at the cost of bands I detest making another cent.

It's a fine model for other games, and even other software (like Adobe's venture into this), but not for a music genre oriented game like this, unless the catalog is MASSIVE.
I don't know enough about it, but I thought in general, that the music company owned the rights to distribute the songs. So while the song is done by Soundgarden (for example), it's actually Sony (again, for (possibly unrelated) example) that Ubisoft would be negotiating with in order to get the rights to convert it to Rocksmith. I mean, Michael Jackson owned the rights to The Beatles music for a while there so Ubisoft would be talking to Michael Jackson (not now of course but you get the idea). And doesn't Axl Rose own the rights to the Guns & Roses stuff so Ubisoft would have to talk with Axl to get the rights to their music.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's not a band you're supporting, but a music company. To me, I'm supporting Ubisoft and not Maroon 5 or The Pixies (I imagine Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, and maybe Judas Priest owns their own music... maybe?).

In general, I think more options are better than fewer. The idea of prepaying for several songs and choosing which ones you use it on sound great. Baseball and hockey teams often do this with tickets. Pay for x number of games, and choose which ones you go to.

It's pretty safe to assume that the band does get royalties.

This is the idea right here.

Honestly I wish whoever thought of season passes for bloody games would be taken out back and...well....

The point is you can't really trust most companies to do right by things like this. Take THQ and Saint's Row 3. They did a season pass and the DLC was rubbish, then turned around and released more dlc separately which could have easily been added to the season pass.

This nonsense along with Online passes are just more ways for companies to "test the waters" and see just what they can get away with, and the fact that gamers are just blindly accepting these tactics helps nothing.

Besides, it wouldn't work very well with something like this. Music taste varies, and lets say you sign up for...a three month pass on dlc, and it turns out you hate all the dlc for those three months. You are just SOL.

I personally would never and will never adopt season passes, but I'm also not the type to pre-order games(I rarely, rarely do). Too risky these days.
