Demo is working fine as people said.

New question - my really high speed connection is at work. Can updates be downloaded to any computer or do they have to be done on the one with the game installed? I can take my laptop to work, but connection would be lower speed than my work PC.

Instead of autopatching, you may use patches from:

It's not enough to install just the latest patch. You must apply all sequentially. Means if your game version is 1.5.0, you have to install 1.5.1 first then 1.5.2.

OK, but I could download them on one computer; save them to a flash drive and then load them onto another computer and apply them, one by one. That would be great.

I find this new version very confusing compared to Heros V. Guess I need to do some reading. Any suggestions? Just looking for something basic,

Yes, any media will do, burn them on a CD if you want just remember that you need to apply ALL ones you didn't already have, the latest one is not enough.

For game complexity/confusion, definetly start with the tutorial campaign and set it on easy. You may always replay it on normal or hard if you feel that easy was "too easy".
But many things you'll learn in the tutorial campaign.
After you're done with two maps on tutorial campaign, more details you can find on official HoMM6 website, and unofficial (fan) manual can fill the gaps (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...-VI-Fan-Manual). Don't forget to visit conflux page to: http://heroes-6-conflux.uk.ubi.com/
