    Hey guys,

I just got a Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB Lite, and now Ghost Recon locks up (which has never occurred with my Asus V6600 GeForce 256 32MB SDR). It hard locks up at the soldier/kit selection during the briefing of any mission. Particularly anytime I see a 3D model of the soldiers.

All of my other games run perfect (Raven Shield, High Heat 2004).

I do not believe this is a heat related problem as it occurs almost instantaneously but it does not occur with Raven Shield.

I originally installed the latest 3.6 Cat drivers and then uninstalled them and tried the 3.4 to no avail.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks!

    To cribbs,

Try the below and post your dxdiag as instructed at bottom.

    1. Go to display settings->advanced->direct 3d
    2. Check everything except alternate pixel center, 16;24;32;,
    - use error diffusion dithering openGL
    - do not convert 32 bit to 16
    - enable page flipping
    - enable KTX buffer
    - enable texture compression
    - full scene anti-aliasing DISABLED( this seems to be the problem) anisotropic texture filtering Disabled
    - level of detail sharp with these settings users haven't crashed yet while running 800x600 full detail & highest textures
    - EAX is on and all sound & video hardware acceleration full on.

This is not a guaranteed fix

    Dxdiag

start/run/ type in dxdiag click ok/ when it has finished loading/system tab/ down the bottom click SAVE ALL INFORMATIOM to desktop/copy and paste that in the forums.

    Copy/Paste

You may know how to do this already, so overlook it if you do.

To copy/paste left click the left mouse button and while holding the left mouse button down drag it to the left then up the page until every word is highlighted. Then on any part of the highlighted words right click and a little window pops up and with the left mouse button click COPY.

Now come to the forums and place your thread for your problem and in the white space, right click the mouse button and another small window pops up. With the left mouse button click the word PASTE and your dxdiag is copy/pasted

I actually did try that from the Red Storm tech support page. But I don't even have all of those options...

I can't do the dxdiag just yet because I installed my card in another computer (AMD Duron 800 GHz, ECS K7S5A) and I have my old Asus V6600 card in right now which runs Ghost Recon perfectly. Strangely enough, the Radeon in the other computer displays the same problems as my computer. It seems the video card can be suspect or the motherboard.

Also, I have tried reinstalling Ghost Recon, Desert Siege, and Island Thunder to no avail.

As soon as I get this card back in my computer I'll post the info.

    Thanks!

Cribbs, did you use Detonater Destroyer to get rid of your Nvidia drivers? It's possible that there's some old Nvidia stuff lingering in your registry. You might still be able to run Detonator Destroyer on your system even though you may have uninstalled the Nvidia drivers a while ago. It mostly just cleans up your registry.

You might also want to try Omega's ATI driver set. You can actually install these w/o uninstalling your previous ATI drivers.

I've had some really weird stuff happen when changing video cards.

Okay, nothing seems to be working.

    I have tried switching from 2x 256MB PC100 RAM to 2x 256 PC2100 to no avail.

I returned the card and swapped it for another... same problem.

I used Detonator Destroyer and installed the Cat drivers... same problem.

I reformatted my hard drive and installed the Cat drivers on a fresh Win98 environment... same problem.

I've tried installing the Omega drivers... same problem.

I noticed that you're using the K7S5A. I've built 3 rigs with that board and have come to the conclusion that I never should have tried to save money by buying that board. Others have put it more strongly - like it's the bane of their existence! But I have to admit, I do have one K7S5A running just fine with an Radeon 8500LE in it and runs all games just fine. On one of the other K7S5As, GR would constantly lock up - but that was with WinXP.

I also noticed that you're using Win98 with that board. The K7S5A, when run with Win98, requires an AGP driver from SIS if you're going to game with it. Do you have that installed? But then again, it's weird how you have no problems with other games. I wouldn't rule it out though.

So as not to offend anyne, I usually don't make such a strong recommendation but I consider myself a fairly experienced system builder and I think you'll experience better computing overall if you get rid of that board. I just picked up an Epox 8RDA+ Nforce 2 board for just $79 and it's technology/quality is light-years ahead of the K7S5A.

    DirectX 9 + Windows 98 = bad mojo.

I suggest you either use the very latest DX9, which is the "b" version, or go back to 8.1.

My thoughts drift in slow motion.
