I think I've lost faith in Master Mode

Ok, so I only have about 30 arrangements mastered, so the game doesn't have a lot to pick from when it gives me an encore. But recently it gave me Satisfaction. I thought that was great, because it was one song I was certain I could weasel my way through. And weasel I did. Once the performance ended though I realized that it wanted the chord and I gave them the single note. Just for laughs I went to see how well I did, mind you I have never played the mastered version of the chord arrangement, so the score showed would be my encore. It said I scored 170,000 points. I didn't even play the right arrangement. How is this possible?

Yep, that is a known "issue". When you have multiple versions of songs, there is no way to know which one is given in MM.

I guess you can kinda go off of the crowd response, but many points will be lost by then.

I think it does tell you, at least I know it tells you when the song ends, big help that is. I was just curious how I got 170,000 points on an arrangement I didn't play.

Ahead of the first patch it did not tell you which arrangement you were to play, now it does.

This is not a problem with Master Mode, it's a problem with how easy the Chord detection is on this particular arrangement. If you played that exact same run in non-MM you would have scored half of that 170k (i.e. 85k). The odd thing about this arrangement if I recall correctly is you mostly just have to hit the root note on the chords to get them to register - try doing exactly what you did in Non-MM and I think you'll see you get around 85k (or more).

i.e. I remember this particular arrangement being a bit more lax on chord detection.

Master mode is still the best feature of this game. At the end of the day, my goal is to be able to play the songs from memory and MM helps me do this. I Like the pressure that master mode puts on me to try to figure the song out on the fly. When you fail miserably trying to remember the song, it helps you remember it better the next time.

Chord detection does seem a bit curious: you might recall that I commented that in Jessica, I was playing a regular open-string D chord (1st string 2nd fret, 2nd string 3rd fret and 3rd string 2nd fret, 4th string open), instead of the charted version that has the same for 2nd and 3rd string, but a 4th string 4th fret note instead and no 1st string, and it registered as a hit. But playing just a root note and it being detected as a 3-note chord does seem weird, even if harmonics are taken into account.

I get the distinct feeling that chord detection as a whole is fairly lax, since I seem to recall when first playing certain arrangements, while I'm still struggling a bit to figure out what chord it is and I'm still mashing a bit, I often still record hits, even though I'm pretty sure I haven't got the chord down right yet.
