When your in-game, hold the PS button, and hit X, <--, X really fast, it'll unlock.

ive seen 2 ppl so far with it....an i know its a glich couse if u look at the unlocks u can't have it on ps3 at all
The Japanese version has the Defender I think, maybe you were playing someone from Japan.
