The son of a friend at work has a couple of Bass's and he doesn't think his son's using one much if at all. It's a lower priced Bass so he's willing to loan it to me to see if it's something that appeals. I think that's pretty cool over all and will snag it in a couple of weeks when I get back from my trip.

That is pretty sweet! I don't know any bass players at all, let alone know one with a loaner, but this sounds like a great way to test the waters without having to commit too far.
Having just bought a new Strat last week, I'm a bit torn between justifying the purchase of an inexpensive bass just for the expansion, or just focusing on the guitar track for a while longer (which can still use a lot of work). It might be different once I can bump up my practice time in the upcoming winter months, but a loaner bass would instantly solve the problem of indecision for now.

It's a Peavey Millennium BXP 4 String Bass. Supposedly not a bad beginners bass so should be interesting once I get back.
