    Anyone a member of Talkbass?

I went there to research all things bass and it was pretty much a bunch of snobbery. They call guitarist "guitards" and think if you don't pluck with your finger you are not a real bass player. They also seem to worship Jaco. I knew this from my time there before. It was just reinforced.

I must admit though,,, there is a ton of good advice and helpful people there, If you have any question about bass no matter how obscure it will be answered. My first post sounded pretty negative. Overall it is a great site.

Hmm, I've been using Talkbass for some reasearch and I actually signed up yesterday to ask a question about the bass I just ordered. There IS a lot of great info on there. I just haven't run into the snobbery yet I guess, but there's bound to be some at ANY forum. That said, I don't plan on using a pick to play bass, so I guess I'm part of the 'cool' crowd.

I've been a member for a couple of years now, and though there is a (very) small element of truth to the OP's statements, it's nowhere near as bad as most website forums. Not everyone there is a snob that thinks pick users are bad, worships Jaco, or calls guitarist "guitards".
    OP's characterization is exeggerated.
It's a great site, with, TBH, it's share of jerks (but no more jerks than other forums, in fact, a bit less, IMO), but,the majority are helpful, well-informed bassists.

Yeah, my original post sounded bad, so added a second. Overall it is a great site. No matter what forum you are on you will get some. I have a samsung Galaxy s2 phone and the text stopped working I found a site and posted a question asking if anyone had a fix since I couldnt find one in search. Some guy told me to flush it down the toilet and buy an I-Phone,. Or read the rant and raves section of Craiglist in any city, lol.

Indeed, there are jerks on every forum I've ever dealt with. TBH ,Talkbass has them too, but again, not as many as some forums.

Regarding people on TalkBass calling guitarists 'guitards' - if you go to any guitar forum (including the rocksmith forum before the split) you will find no shortage of guitarists making fun of bassists. I wouldn't take that as any sort of bass forum elitism.

Guess they won't like it if I show up on there and ask questions about playing bass with my guitar+pick using the bass emulator

Maybe I didn't see them but I didn't see too many members on here dissing bassists. :/ If so it is definitely not ok. You are all here for the same reason.
