    Starting Uplay in Offline Mode

    Dear community,

Since the launch of the new Uplay PC, we've been carefully reading all your feedback, and we think some clarification is required regarding offline and online modes.

When running the new Uplay PC client while being connected to the Internet, you can benefit from all the functionalities and services it offers - such as the friends system, actions & rewards, latest news and more - and of course enjoy the online features of your games. However, you are not required to be online at all time to access your games.

As long as you've already logged in successfully once, the client is designed to switch automatically to offline mode if you don't have an active Internet connection or cannot connect to the game servers. Also, if you wish to force the client to start directly in offline mode, you can tick the "Always start in Offline Mode" box in the Settings, either directly from the login screen or the small cog in the menu bar.

When in offline mode, most features will be unavailable, but you can start your game from the Games tab as usual. All games in our current catalog can be played offline after they have been activated, with the exception of Hawx 2 and Settlers 7, and your solo campaign will resume from the latest local save. As a note, if you play on a single computer and don't have the need for Cloud Save Synchronization, you can also disable the option in the Settings.

If you have any question regarding Uplay, you can contact us on the forums, on twitter.com/uplayubisoft or on facebook.com/uplay.ubisoft. For support requests, make sure you fill a ticket on http://support.ubi.com.

I just tried to play an old game. My UPlay is fully configured for offline mode, but when it started, it downloaded an updated version and destroyed all my old login credentials, forcing me to login online before I can play any of your games.

This wouldn't have been a problem, but apparently your (Australian?) servers are down for maintenance. Once again I am prevented from playing a game I purchased legitimately on UPlay.

You people revolt me. I haven't pirated a game in 25 years (since the C64 days), but I may make an exception for future Ubisoft games - you're certainly NEVER going to see another cent of my money again (and as a 40 year old gamer with a massive disposable income, I'm sure I'm a critical part of your market). You deserve to go bankrupt, given your insistence on punishing those who do the right thing via your incompetently implemented DRM.

Uplay is down again..., I have never used yet pirated games, but I swear I won't buy any of Ubisoft game, no more. You are screwing your legitimate users, then we will prefer use torrent editions of your games or don't play them at all. Uplay and constant online connection - it's a SHAME. If you don't understand that we don't understand you. Bye...

I do agree that a proper announcement should be made whenever the serve is detected at a off-line mode for any possible reason... Though it doesn't help those who want to play at that moment, at least, it shows some respect to the latter and can defuse some sort of confusions....

I have received delivery and installed ACIII Join or Die edition today (having pre-ordered this in August!)
    It autopatched successfully.
Then Uplay game launcher started and I faced the same problem: "A Ubisoft service is not available at the moment. You can try again later or switch to offline mode."
I then closed down all outgoing traffic via my firewall to see the result: "There seems to be a problem with your internet connection. Please check your settings or switch to offline mode." This clearly shows that when the game launcher is allowed through the firewall it is able to search for "a Ubisoft service". The connection problem therefore lies on Ubisoft's side of the firewall.
Just as frustrating is the fact that I cannot even "switch to offline mode" since according to the launcher, I have never logged in before, despite having the whole Assassins Creed series installed on the hard drive.
But most frustrating is the fact that I have patiently waited 4 months for this game, missed out on competition and content, my multiplayer experience is set back and now I cannot even get started!
