Glitch changes PoV on FoV, What's Yours?
So I had the evening to myself Saturday and must have flown missions for 4 hours or more on my new i7 3770k GTX 680 rig. With this new rig it's already a new game as far as realism and immersion but it gets even better. I have 3 screens on a TH2go with TrackIR5 and Sans Fov. I normally zoom out so the sides of the windshield span the center monitor, the way San suggests in his instructions. But in this view the guages and the gun sight are pretty small so they're not really useful and it's not easy to hit targets beyond .25 to .30km.
Well, shortly after I started flying San's FOV Changer stopped working for some reason (computer IP changed, but that's not important). At first I was upset and frustrated that I couldn't zoom out. But I decided to continue that way and something incredible happened. As I started to get acclimated to the stock IL2 views that were available, I started to realize I had a MUCH BETTER view of not only my ****pit but the Oleg's world at large. Even though the windshield filled up all three screens and areas above and below were cut off, with Track IR when I looked around I could see everything OUTSIDE the plane WAY better than before. And when I looked down at my guages I could really read them and actually use them as intended. I mean I REALLY started to feel like I was in the pit. When you zoom out with the FOV Changer you get a kind of fisheye effect and things get distorted and shrink quite a bit. With Oleg's intended views, everything was clear and undistorted and more realistic than ever before. I even found myself using the middle view as much as the widest one.
It's kind of like if you were standing in front of a wide picture window and you took several steps back away from the window, you have a wider view of the window, but you actually have a narrower view of the world outside the window. But as you step forward towards the window you can see a wider and wider view of the world. If you put your face right up to the window, you get the widest view of what's outside the window. This was a revelation. This game just keeps getting better. I finally have the immersion I have been looking for, actually longing for, for 2 years. I now understand why people WANT to fly full switch. This is really a sim now, and no longer a game. Also, with this new view I was knocking stuff out of the sky with two little taps from the Spit's cannons at over .50km. Gotta love the Spit for that. It's funny that it took 2 years to get to the view Oleg probably intended from the beggining. But I don't think I could have started here. I needed the wider FOV to get into the game, but now that I'm here, I'm hooked even more.
So, what FoV are you guys flying at? Do any of you squadron flyers use San's FOV Changer? I have the feeling allot of you skilled pilots have been at this resident zoom for a long time. Please let me know your views. pun intended. F.

I tried Sans FOV changer, but by the time it was released I'd been flying the stock 3 FOV options for 7 or 8 years and didn't like the distortion at wider FOVs. I normally fly Wide/Zoom on a toggle under my thumb. I'm using mouse view emulated on a hat for view control (stock Saitek X-52 profile options) and have gotten to the point that it's really natural looking around that way. Monitor is a 1080p with IL2 running windowed at 1280x960.

I have never used San's FOV Changer. I have downloaded a zoom feature from the SAS site and used it for a short while but stopped using it when you could not fly on Spits vs 109s server because it was a mod that was not allowed. The only really good thing about the zoom was the ability to zoom in to identify aircraft at a distance. Since then I have been getting used to flying at a higher screen resolution to ease aircraft identifying. I have a single 27” monitor, would be nice to try 3 but that is not happening anytime soon. The reason I am going the new build route is for the higher screen resolution and running the game at higher levels of detail. I am hoping that with the higher detail level that it will be easier to keep track of aircraft against terrain backgrounds, water etc. Would be nice to run the terrain, etc. settings at “3” and enjoy the view more.
