Thread: Rocksmith PC on Windows XP? | Forums

  1. #21
Windows XP is garbage and nobody with a modern PC would run it when Windows 7 runs circles around it in every aspect. While Microsoft may still support XP, and very lightly they support it, developers don't. Why would a developer develop software for a out dated OS?
Any PC gamer today is running Windows 7 64bit. PC parts are cheap, upgrade, it's worth it.

As far as Steam sending you a real tone cable, if it's included with the purchase I'm sure they will. They send you out the items for other game titles.

By the way just because windows XP isn't as good for modern gaming as 7 doesn't mean it's a bad OS for gaming in general. It's a hell of a lot better than Vista at least. Also, please keep a civil tongue, calling something garbage like that is rather rude.

Regardless of how easy that sounds for techies like us, I doubt most of the people in Ubisoft's target audience could or would go to that effort.

He was never well known for his tact. And lets be realistic: Rocksmith is not a graphical powerhouse like the modern games he was referring to. Software that works well in XP generally works well in Windows Vista and 7, but I wouldn't expect him to understand that.

Ahh... I do concur Raynebc. Odds are it should run fine enough, and worse case there are ways around the issues. Which is where being a techy comes in handy I guess, but to be honest it's almost as easy as it sounds. The biggest downside to it is the time consumption and drive to do it. And by all means if you lack the drive to go as far as it takes to do something you didn't want it bad enough to get it to begin with.

that is too bad to hear about no supporting xp, Rocksmith does not have some complex 3D map it has to load to play. I had hopped to move to pc when it comes out, but looks like I will end up just keeping the xbox solely to play Rocksmith. even though my xbox is just a few months old I dought I could sell it for enough to make it worth selling.

*points at the other previously posted AVAILABLE, FREE, and LEGAL solutions to this problem* I hate to sound like a broken record and all but I'm starting to wonder if these angry and disappointed folks read all the comments at this point... I might be better off sending PMs....

Xpress Linux should be able to help you guys who are running XP play Rocksmith on the PC. You will probably ned to update wine, but over all it should be easy for you guys to do. Or at least be an enjoyable learning process.

Edit: Corrected most recent version link, also you will need to get WINE separately for the windows run time environment. I'll be installing and testing this version myself as soon as I get a chance. Feel free to message me with questions, I'll answer them as quickly and efficiently as I can.

Edit #2: On another side note the full fledged Ubunto 12.04 will give you the over all easiest time with installing WINE at the sacrifice of not having a Windows explorer lay out. The Windows installer might even be a good idea for those of you unfamiliar with burning ISO files and creating partitions.

Chances are, the game will run perfectly fine on XP.

There is a BIG difference between 'Not supported', and 'Will not run'
Basically, 'Not supported' simply means that if you have issues with it, you can't get tech support.

The only way I can see it not actually running on XP is if there are any DirectX 10 specific calls, but I can't see that...

Anyway, just my 2 cents...but I guess we will see.

Considering the graphical needs there's no way it should need DirectX 10. 9 is more than good enough for what they have.
