I felt like Heavy Rain's controls weren't the most responsive and it would get frustrating.

I'll make sure to forward this on to Zack so he can take a look at it.
Heavy Rain was a great ride.
I really wanna go through it again and see what I can do different.
(I got a good ending. Happily ever after stuff. [*tear] )

I think the lack of responsiveness was due to the delay presented from the animation speed. That is, 'you' control the animation speed, so until the thumbstick gets all the way to the edge, the action is still in the initiation phase, if that makes any sense at all?
The system I present here would use a more binary triggering. That is, once the LTS is under, say 25% pressure in the apt direction, action 'X' is triggered. (back to the perfect keyboard compatibility, A,S,D,W keys are binary)
In any case, that would really cool to bring Zack in on the case. (he'll be back soon afaik)

Yeah, it is loads of fun. Really diverse story with many possibilities.
Good characters, etc. I definitely recommend it -- looks real pretty too. A great example of how PS3 exclusives take advantage of that monster GPU setup.
And not too much work at all.

Hehe, sorry, no PS3 here but isn't this also for the PC? I am pretty sure I saw it somewhere. :/ Ah, no, I was thinking about Alan Wake. I think I was thinking about this too before. Anyways. If I get a PS3, I may try it.
The more I play SCC, the more I think SCC and SCB are more optimized for panther and assault. Playing ghost is not really a fun factor unlike the old SC games. For that matter, I think SCB should at least be played panther or assault (not over use). We all hope SCB is more classic since it is still in production but you can't change the fact that the series is taking this way. Therefore, you play it the way it's meant to be played. Though, I am not ruling out ghosting in SCB, it's possible and can be fun but the game is more optimized for panther/assault.
    Therefore:
SC1-4: Ghost player SCC and SCB: Panther/(Occasional)Assault
    Overall: GHOST PLAYER

I want better button configuration and operation too. Erroneous pick ups of items are plaguing a lot of games these days, it's even in GRFS. I think it's almost unavoidable there though, the objectives and healing team mates is a problem but what are you going to do, there are only so many buttons.

I think SC could be made better though. I like the idea of the action button being held and the d-pad selecting a choice, but I also like being able to look at a switch or be next to it and just flip it real quick. Same with a door bash. I think the fluidity may be compromised in some fashion.
I think the d-pad option should be used for the stealthy tactical elements, when the Spy is being methodical. So slowly opening a door works for the d-pad. I don't know what else, maybe hacking or lock picking.

I prefer GRFS's button configuration over SCC's, it feels a bit more natural.

One just needs to be creative.

D-Pad is all good, but I think the Left Thumbstick could work too.

Right but then your movement is on lock down so I don't know. I think the action items, like light switches, pipes, well everything basically, need to have a lot more fine tuned and precise action locations. I should be next to the light switch to switch it not a more than arms length, and when I look at it Sam shouldn't open a door instead, or pick up a gun or whatever.
I suppose if you're in micro mode though you don't need to move.

    Precision + please.

I disagree about more buttons on controllers though. I think I'm at my limit. As it is right now if I go from Ghost Recon to SCC I just look like a turnip when I start chucking hand grenades around erroneously like a noob. I don't like the scoping control in SCC as much either, the layout in general just didn't seem the best.

Uh-huh, but athletics, such as climbing pipes and diving out windows would be governed by a tap of 'A' (just like they are now)
Only the more intricate actions are keyed to holding 'A'

Doing it this way could open up more possibilities for level design too.
For example, tapping 'A' makes you fly up a wall, whereas holding 'A' and pressing forwards on the LTS makes you open doors.
In action, you could have a piece of level that has wall, with both a door and a ledge in the one place. Tap 'A' to go up and onto the ledge, hold 'A' to go through the door. No mistakes.

I agree that it could muck with fluidity, sometimes, but only for the more micro actions, like toggling lights, and more often than not, in such instances you're dawdling anyway. so...

You've spent a lot more time looking into button configs and you've come up with some great ideas along the way, so I'll defer to you there.
I definitely need to be able to perform actions on the fly or at speed though. Tapping to dive seems reasonable, as does holding to mount something (it would slow you down). I'm concerned about the light switches being categorized as a micro action in this instance though, because I generally do like to hit them as a pass by in a fast crouch walk. I enter the room, try to hit the light switch and move right on through without stopping when possible. So I feel like this method might interfere with that?

Kind of contradicts an ego statement I made in another thread about not needing to shoot or switch lights but hey, I play SC every way I can

The little bit of the game I played at a friend's house really impressed me. And in regards to the idea, I like it. Something HAS to be done about the A for everything situation. This would seem to do just that.
