Like the OP, I had zero experience coming in. And I firmly believe that if a bum like me can pull it off anyone can.
though who knows what'll happen with bass. Only so much free time

It's not about "can". It's about the fact that I don't play events. I could play the same 4 songs in an event over and over again and get there in a day, but I just play the songs I want to play and that doesn't give you RSP. So as I make small improvements, I inch closer and closer, but I'm guessing it's going to be a while till I get there.

Well if you learn how to play the bass, you might land a gig in a band

A few of the bands i've played in - noone wanted to play bass, so we just ended up sounding like Metallica - and then when we didn't actually end up sounding like Metallica, it afforded everyone ample free time to sit and mull over all that gear they had to have but were unable to make a payment.
