    Bass weekly challenge?

So it seems that we'll need to add a bass weekly challenge starting the 14th right? Or maybe start it Sunday the 19th. Should it be totally separate from the guitar challenge, or just the bass part for the song that's the guitar challenge? I vote for the former.

I would have thought we'd add it to the current challenges at a minimum. The negative of that is we've already had 24 weeks guitar songs, so we wouldn't get those back for bass without replaying the guitar parts...

hmm.. Maybe that is a bad thing...

I'm ok with either way. But... Can someone play the challenge on their guitar using the bass emulator, or does that make the bass too easy for the challenge...? I don't currently plan on buying a bass in the short term.

I think it should be a separate challenge. And starting on the 19th would work. guess I'm gonna have to buy the dlc and wait on the new retail package.

This is a good question. I can see in some cases playing on a guitar making a bass part easier, and in some cases making it harder. Personally, I wasn't planning on getting a bass originally, but now I probably will. I just don't want it to take too much of my limited time from guitar playing.

Newbie question here: why is it going to be easier to play emulated bass on a guitar, versus playing a real bass?

I find moving around a guitar's fretboard a LOT easier than moving around a Bass fretboard. I think it has to do with a combination of the string thickness/tension, spacing between strings, and the scale length of most basses. But I haven't thought about it too much and don't have a bass handy, so there may be other reasons.

I can do runs waaay faster on a guitar than on a bass as a result.

I say we should make it separate. I'm not certain on the emulator though. On one hand playing some bass parts on a guitar is easier than on a full scale bass, but on the other hand other riffs may be more difficult though. I also don't think that playing bass parts on a guitar will be quite as easy as a short scale bass would be once you're used to the tension that is. So there is give and take. Right now I'm leaning towards making the guitar emulating bass it's own division alongside a normal bass section. This should prevent anyone from feeling as though they were cheated because they were either using a bass or guitar and that they feel that the other was easier which is why they won/lost.

I vote for a separate challenge, start on the 19th, and a separate division (or divisions?) for emulator mode.

I can see why folks would want them separate, but I can see doing the same song too. It would really grind the beat in, to learn both parts. Eventually I guess we will.

Learning 2 songs a week, is going to be too much, for me, most weeks. I guess I'll have to choose.

Really learning 2 parts would not be much easier. I never did learn combo 2, the week we did the AK w/ SRV song.
I heard they's a man there pays folks money to sing into a can.
