I think if Desmond falls asleep the entire thing shuts down or something.
Why? Has it been established that they need him to be awake the entire time? Can't the machine explore his memories while he's asleep?

Use bloodtrails and bait to get animals to kill for me
1: Get a bear to chase me ,then i will climb up a tree just to see what it does.
