Unhappy Windows 7 problems starting Silent Hunter 5

Hello out there to Silent Hunter 5 players on Windows 7,

I've been dealing with UbiSoft support for several weeks trying to get Silent Hunter running on my Quad AMD processor system with 4 Gb Ram running Windows 7. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game several times but still can't get to an opening game screen. Only to the Uplay screen with the following result. When I click Play I get the too familiar "game running" message and then it times me out after 2 minutes.

UbiSupports latest suggestion was to try launching it in the safe mode which I did and the opening movie started playing without sound, on a window about 1/3 of the screen in the upper left. I hit Escape to stop it but nothing happened. At the end of the movie the Uplay screen reappeared offering the Play button again. When I hit play it again gives me a "Game running" message but stays on the Uplay screen and again times me out after 2 minutes. I asked if he had any Windows 7 users successfully playing the game? He answered that many Win 7 users are successfully playing the game. He just suggested I post on this forum in hopes that someone has a solution.

If anyone is successfully playing the game on Windows 7 and has any suggestions on how to get beyond the Uplay screen to an opening SH 5 screen I am all ears. I very much enjoyed previous SH versions and want to play this version very much. I am NOT getting to an opening screen with various options like Quick or Historical missions, or Career mode. Only the Uplay screen described above. When I click on the Action button it shows a Tutorial mission which I would like to try but no way to activate or play them.

    Hey there TrapperJim,

I had a similar situation when I first tried to get Silent Hunter 5 running on my new Windows 7 machine.
I must have reinstalled the game 7 or 8 times before I got it to work right. This is what I did that finally got it to worf for me and I hope if will work for you.

I went to the control panel and picked to uninstall a program. I uninstalled Silent Hunter 5, then uninstalled Uplay, then uninstalled Ubisoft Game Launcher.
For some reason I still had the following folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher so I delete that Ubisoft Game Launcher folder as well.

Then I went to www.Uplay.com and clicked on the orange button near the top right that let me download the Uplay client. I ran that file and installed the Uplay client. When I signed in and looked at my games page it already had Silent Hunter 5 listed and said to download it, so I did. It took forever but it finally downloaded then said install, so I did that.

When it finished I pretty much knew it would not work, but for some reason a clean installation worked for me. I clicked on play and it started to download some update and eventually asked me if I wanted to install it so I said yes and waited for everything to close and update and sure enough it started with no problems. I did still have to close and restart many times before game was fully patched. They should make one big patch. I am not sure why it was different than all of the other times I tried. Except that I uninstalled everything before trying that last time.

I really hope this works for you. I am also a silent hunter fand and there really is no other game like it in my opinion. Give it a shot when you have a chance and let us know if this helps.
