CM 10- freezes at start-up with Windows 7

I start CM 10 from the CD.

2 Knights show with the text:
    "Sound is turned off"

    I click OK

Then a Black Square appears on my screen
or the whole screen goes black,
    and CM 10 freezes.

    Why?

    When CM 10 is working,
the black square becomes a graphic presentation
    of a chrome Chess set.
Then clicking [Enter] will start play.

    A few questions:
    1. Did you remember to install Chessmaster 10th Edition as the Administrator?
    2. Did you install the version of DirectX that came on the CD? This is required.... it won't use the version of DirectX that comes with Windows 7.
    3. You should install all the patches... this will allow you to run CM 10 without the CD.

After you've tried the above, if you still have problems, then I'd suggest checking for a new driver for your video card.

    Fatal Error - Yikes !!

    I tried REinstalling CM10
    and got this error message;

    "1603 fatal error during installation"
Consult Windows Installer help for more information.

A second attempt brought the same message.

Are your service packs/patches for Windows 7 up to date?

If your're running any other programs (including anti-virus/firewall software), close them. Then try uninstalling. After it's finished, then re-install as the Administrator.

Also, Can you give me some more information about your system?

I used to install mine in MacBook mode. It was running VirtualBox. For some reason, it would never allow me to see anything except a black area where the chess board should be! I found out later that it did not have the right display driver. In any case, Microsoft Windows 8 solved this problem.

You do not want to run it in virtual mode because it slows it down drastically. So I would suggest installing it directly onto the original operating system (e.g. Microsoft Windows XP).

That is all I can think of at the top of my head. I am actually using Microsoft Windows Vista and it works fine. I am not sure about Windows 7 though.
    Thank you Jesus Christ.

This has been covered a few times before, but I'll repeat it again...Chessmaster 10th Edition was desiged for Windows. Using an emulator or virtual machine to install/run Chessmaster on a Macintosh violates the terms of the End User License Agreement (EULA), and isn't supported.

Chessmaster 10th Edition will run on the following: Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. It also runs on Windows 8; but as this is technically still in beta, it's not supported at this time.
