I really don't see where there is variable speed in that demo. It looks more like slow downs. There is also the possibility that the speed Sam was walking in that passage was a part of an animation. Like you tell something Sam should do, he will go there and do it. If you point at the weapon to pick it up, he will walk to the weapon and pick it up. That's happening in one animation and the speed in which Sam is walking in this animation may be different to the normal walking you do yourself.

Variable Speed is really an important aspect. It doesn't just add a lot of depth to the game and control to the character, it's also the best feature to blend the Panther and Ghost player. We have a difficulty system, make sure you use that system to your benefit. You can change a lot of things there. In previous games the audio and L&S system was also partly linked to the difficulty or rather the AI having more sharp senses (better eyes and ears).

Both the Panther and Ghost player benefit from that system and it's in my opinion a great feature especially for the Panther player (Aggressive Panthers and the more Defensive ones) because they will be the one who will be engaging the enemies in an active way. They need to have the ability to stalk their prey, their enemy. Variable Speed gives maximum controll, maximum depth and maximum range of playstyles blending them in perfectly. It needs to be there.

Things change from demo to finished game, after all. Also, if you watched the demo, you should have noticed that there are more than one crouching speed, even if it is not truly variable. slow crouch, fast crouch, running while crouched. Those three are in at the moment.

Variable speed only in a few situations make no sense. Might as well just give you full control of the character at all times instead of only giving it in certain situations.
Yes I did watch the demo and yes I do realise there are two crouched speeds. If you'd had read my first post correctly, you'd notice I said "then reverts back to the new dual speed system". That is dual speed excluding the sprinting.

    doogsy91: then I stand corrected.

Andre202: I see your point, but to me it looks like it happens before and after the weapon pickup, and it has that weird stopping before opening the door that is caused by someone stopping moving on the controller more than an automatic animation... I might be wrong though. Either way, I want it in conviction :P

It looks to me like there was just another, slower walking speed that they since removed.

I don't want binary speed system because it limits our ability to stealth very much. Bring back old tested variable speeds system!
Conviction stealth was so bad... I had to roll like a ****ing idiot because only in this way you can safely avoid those guards in the most dangerous places - the basic speed was not sufficient at all.
Stealth in this game was very frustrating and unattractive in the long time. I hate this game so much...

If you're looking something special from Splinter Cell videos, (last my project was called Tactical Espionage from Chaos Theory - advanced ghost style), visit my fansite channel at this address: http://www.youtube.com/user/jaruto7?feature=mhee

Our ideas should serve as an inspiration for Ubisoft Torronto with new and innovative features in the right direction for Blacklist: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...e-in-Blacklist

We need a purist mode similar to what Hitman: Absolution have, but with our rules: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...40#post8582940

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...list-Checklist Please support the checklist and hopefully Ubisoft will see the massive amounts of people who want to see certain, key features implemented.

Ubisoft... please add in a true variable speed system with an integrated sound system and if you have the time...other abilities, gadgets, and things from the first SC games such as split jump, etc.

even that would be better than what we got. We need to be able to really sneak, slowly. It builds tension, and is extremely important to stealth players. Also, I see no reason why a panther player or action player would benefit from reduced control over the character.
