Maybe by Christmas I'll be ready to get a bass and give it a try.
I've actually found picking up the bass to be quite beneficial. They're different beasts, but you really learn to nail rhythm with bass. You can't afford to play sloppily, so it tightens up your method, which you can transfer to the guitar. At least I feel that way.

    A cliche To think about

Every bassist is just a failed guitarist.

Hopefully you are joking, if you are not, you are an elitist idiot. If you are, good on you. Furthermore joking about bass players not getting chicks is not funny either. The fact is most girls after men in bands dont know the difference between the two.

I will be using an Epiphone Thunderbird Goth Bass. Bass is a lot of fun and can be challenging but realistically its easier to learn bass. That is where all the bassist jokes come from.
I too believe it is beneficial to play Bass and Guitar. A lot of the guys in bands I knew back in the day could play each others instruments at least a little bit. It helped to know what someone else was playing and helped with rhythm. But if your going for virtuoso then it would be best to stick with one instrument.
Bass is a blast though if you got the funk in ya.

    "Think about this cliche."
It's utter bollocks. Most guitar players (even really good ones) I've ever heard play bass just plain sucked at it. The two are completely different animals. Anyone who believes this cliche is indeed, as was said previously, an elitist idiot.
