    Enemy Detection Bar

After watching many videos trailers and comparing with actual game play footage... I keep noticing the white circle with arrows pointing to where enemies are located which flash red when you are shot at from the arrow representing that enemy. Although it is quite a nice system I cannot help but feel that I would like the option to turn this feature off outside of the difficulty settings..

For instance I might want to play the game on easy without enemy detection bar or alternativley play on Hard with enemy detection bar.

I feel that it gets in the way and ruins imersion as it is centre of the screen... An altenative that may work better would be to have this feature rotating around the mini-maps circumference in the bottom left hand corner.

I also think circular cross hairs for example a big shotgun circle are intrusive also and although some people may desire this it would be nice to choose standard cross that are situated at evey 90 degrees of the circumference of the circle as a whole shape is more of an object than a cross hair

Basically loose all the circles from the central field of vision is what I am getting at

Just ideas please tell us your thoughts on these feature in it's current state or any ideas you might have.

You know where you are? ... Your in the jungle baby...... Your gonna die.....

    A good First-person Shooter should:

    - have precise, manual controls - e.g. no auto-aim
    - put balance, challenge and fun above realism
    - be full of fast-paced real-time action
    - let cunning, intelligence and skill decide who wins (PvP)
    - have simple mechanics: easy to learn but difficult to master

It would be nice if you will be able to turn these setting on and off anytime. It does get pretty annoying when you're trying to look at something and all those icons are on your way. I hope they allow us to do this....

I think the Hud although we have lost the +10 xp numbers and have an xp bar now which is greatly improved still is not there yet.... It needs to be taken back further but without losing any of the features and infomation you require.

The more the game can make you forget you are playing a game the better and when you have objects in the middle of the field of your vision it is bound to distract....

I think the best place for the enemy detection is around the mini-map

and broken circles would even be an improvement over the whole circle cross hairs we currently have

The XP system hints you about how to get more points doing a certain action so it could be useful at the beginning. The alert indicator is much more transparent now, not a big issue minding that it just pops up when there are enemies.

Thanks for the info did not realise it was transparent now...... Regardless as it only appears when enemies are on alert i still think that this is the time when you need the most field of view when there are alot of enemies about.Far cry 1 system worked very well for tagging and stealth status and it was all contained within the mini-map radar..... I think thats where it needs to go and stay because it's function is well thought out but it's position is bad that is all

also if it does surround the mini map instead of the very middle of your field of view then the benefits are that you won't have to look in two locations on the hud to ascertain where and how far the enemy is away from you.

The information displayed by the alert meter should directly correlate to the radar minimap and relative positions within this plan view with you player always at the very center of the radar minimap

vertical 0 degrees should be the direction you are facing with the enemy detection relative to that

I hope there is an option to turn off the radar - from the pic posted in this thread - if there was an enemy on the boat where your HUD radar is - you wouldn;t be able to see him - the vision is blocked by the radar. There was that awful vote message that used to appear on FC2 e.g. like xxnoobxx wants to end match - it was very annoying because it blocked the view in gameplay. I dunno why the XP should be on view as well - just another distration from pure gameplay imo.

A toggle for the HUD options would suit alot of guys I reckon.

Yes, i really hope you can customize your HUD, all these problems would go away if you can. The only kind of indicator i like in these kind of games is a kill indicator, like the crosshairs flaring when a kill is made on an NPC..... now that i think of it, i want the ability to turn off crosshairs too.

    +1

A simple on and off switch should not be hard to include. You should be able to customize the game to the way you want to play it. There are absolutely no negatives to adding an on and off switch for each feature.

Don't get me wrong i think what the enemy detection circle or bar is great at what it does..
I just say it again the position in the middle of the screen is a bad place to be for somthing of this nature.... the only thing that should be in the middle of the screen should be the players cross hair and that must not look like a shape or an object it should have gaps to be again less intrusive

Actually its a complete opposite. In a middle of a really intense firefight, all you can pay attention is a center of the screen. I want to see you checking your minimap twice a second at the following situation; You are at low health. You are fighting off 5 enemies in front of you. You are shooting blindly to get them off you. You also try to retreat to a better cover by walking backwards. At every millisecond one of them might hit you and put you out of your misery. Now imagine, that at this situation, 2 more enemies are closing in from behind you and they are closer than 15 meters.

I bet that a those critical moments, minimap info flies out of the window. This is why the center of a screen enemy indicator is better. You can still pay attention to that, even in a middle of an intense firefight, that draws ALL your attention towards the center. And one thing i hate above all in video games, is an enemy that sneaks behind me and I'm not even aware of him, all in a middle of a firefight where I'm all 100% focused on the enemies in front of me. Unless you invent an echolocation devise, that enables sighted to have the same ability than bats do, i wouldn't want enemy indicator anywhere, but in the center.
