Hey guys,
here is a message from the developers for you!
----------------------------------
"Ladies and Gents,
On behalf of the GRO team, I’d like to extend a huge “thank you” for playing in the latest Closed Beta. This beta was big step for all of us to build an awesome game and community together.
This time around, I was playing on the North American beta server with a specialist named “temasek”. For any fellow trivia geeks, that was the original name of Singapore in the 14th century under the Javanese empire. A couple of you (AmunRa, samtheman) figured that out part-way through the beta - and seemed extra determined from that point to kick my *** whenever you saw me in game =(
For me, this phase of the Closed Beta accomplished a few key things:
We released the 7.1 patch after the first week. While things still aren’t perfect – after this patch, we measured a decrease in disconnections of ~66%, and a decrease in client crashes of ~30%. We also killed the replication bug where you’d be in cover, but die because the other player’s client didn’t “see” you in cover. But we’re not done yet. We’ll be continuing our efforts to minimize both bugs and technical interruptions to gameplay.
The other good news is that we now have a solid roadmap to improve our matchmaking. We now understand exactly why matchmaking wasn’t working like it should be. It’s sort of like the TV show CSI: it was obvious something was wrong (there was a dead body at the beginning of the show…), but the hard part is identifying the killer and exactly how they did it. We’re now internally testing significant improvements to the whole system. And it’s looking pretty good so far. This includes better team balancing, balancing class distribution between teams, and fixing a bug where we’d get 9v7 matches sometimes.
So, what’s next for GRO?
When everything works (including matchmaking), we’re feeling pretty good about where things are with GRO right now. So, barring any disasters (Specialist Blackout on our server farm?), the next step will be Open Beta! This will be preceded by a few days of VIP access for our beta testers. Stay tuned for a release date on that in the near future.
Between now and then, we’re prioritizing improving what we’ve already got in the game over adding new features. As mentioned – matchmaking will get a significant overhaul. But we’ve also heard your feedback about Conquest mode, which will return to a two-round format.
In addition to that, we’re going to be rolling out an updated version of Korolyov Towers. It should be easier for attackers to exit the spawn area (it’ll be harder to ROFLstomp them right as they drop down). And the C point has been redesigned for much more dynamic gameplay. Longer-term, we’re also planning to revisit Shearwater 51 for improvements, but that won’t be ready at Open Beta. We’re trying to balance our resources between improving existing maps and creating new ones.
There’s dozens of other balance tweaks and bug fixes coming with the Open Beta build, but we’ll have to wait for the release notes to see all those.
Thank you again. Time is the most valuable thing any of you have to give, and frankly - we’re humbled and honored that you’ve chosen to spend so much of it with us in GRO.
