Question Is this a good game.

Hey guys I was wandering..... I've never played a splinter cell game before and wanted to know if this is a good game and what's it about.
Is it a 3rd person cover system game? Is it as good as ghost recon... Better maybe? I seen this "Blacklist" in "Gameinformer" and it intrigued me, and I'm looking forward to buying it. So if you take your favorite ghost recon and best splinter cell...... Which is the best series? Any info is appreciated.

    God bless!

Splinter Cell isn't a shooter per se, it's a stealth game. If you're expecting it to be like Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six, you're looking at the wrong game, but don't let discourage you from trying it out. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is widely regarded by the best, but everything after that is where it all went downhill IMO. You might actually like Conviction because it has a lot more shooter elements than the old games. Still go for CT though.

well there is still some time till the release of SCB, alot of time actually, so go for SC HD Collection since you are a PS3 player like me, it is all about the stealth, the first 3 titles are more about sneaking than shooting, but you can shoot people too of course.

((there is Double Agent, there are 2 versions of it, old gen version on PS2 and next gen on PS3))

Blacklist is more like Splinter Cell Conviction, sadly SCC isn't available on PS3, if you could play it on PC that would be it, it is a new type of game, still stealth, but Fast Paced Stealth ((kinda like GRFS but one man)) and the story is more personal, it is really cool, I for one enjoyed it so much, and you will probably enjoy it too.

IMO SC series is an amazing series, you should really try it, you will fall in love with it.

Go for it! If you're expecting a shooter, Splinter Cell Conviction is the one you want. It's also considered the worst of the series.

If you want something different but still enjoyable (IMO at leasT) go for Chaos Theory. It's generally considered the best and highest point for the series and allows for a multitude of approaches ranging from completely GHOSTING a mission (not killing anyone, turning off no lights, etc.) to being SILENT (sneaking up on enemies, shooting out lights to create a dark path for yourself, etc.) to all out ACTION (shooting and knifing everyone in sight, etc.)

My favorite game is the first Splinter Cell but it's also the least forgiving -- action is basically impossible except for a few instances. If you're looking for a real challenge and don't want just a run of the mill 3rd person shooter, go with either Splinter Cell Stealth Action Redefined (the original game), Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow (the sequel), or Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (the third game).

Splinter Cell Double Agent has two versions: an Xbox 360 version and an original Xbox version (or a PS3/PS2 version, etc.) and both versions are drastically different -- the basic story is roughly the same, more or less but the order of missions, mission layouts, time of missions (day or night), character development and character interaction is completely different...they're essentially two completely different games. The 360 version has better animations and better graphics and a simplified HUD and shadow mechanics but the missions are still cool. It's was a departure from the norm that the previous games had set up (night time missions where you had to be really sneaky) and included day time missions that involved more avoiding eyesight than staying in shadows. The original Xbox version is a lot more like Chaos Theory...both versions also include a morality system where you had to decide which objectives to do while also keeping your cover and allegiance.

Conviction was a drastic departure and very different from the previous games. Whereas the others had a dynamic stealth system including the ability to adjust how slow or fast you move while crouched down (in order to reduce sound emitted and thus stay undetected) where different surfaces such as carpet and metal catwalks would amplify the base sound at different levels, Conviction has only one crouch speed which is always silent no matter what. While the old games had dynamic lighting where depending on how dark the shadows are, the more you were hidden. The lower your light meter, the closer they had to be in order to detect you. In Conviction, the light system was reduced to two levels -- either completely hidden or completely exposed -- no in between.

Basically...I'd suggest looking up gameplay videos of each game and see which one you think appeals to you most.

If you want to try the game most fans agree is the best game which is different from almost every game on the market -- go for Chaos Theory.
If you want to try the game I consider the toughest and most challenging while also being the most different from other Clancy titles (which is different from almost every game on the market) -- go for the first game.
If you want to try the game that has the most shooter elements and is less different from other games -- go for Conviction.

P.S. The old games are very challenging but I always cherished finally overcoming a really difficult portion in a mission.

Great "STEALTH" that is what I'm looking for... I love the stealth missions in GR:FS,I'm a stealth guy.... Can't get enough of it(sniping personally.... But any stealth is fine...). I appreciate all your POSITIVE feedback... All I get from the FS forums is anger toward the game lol. I hope this is a good game because I feel I could really get use to this series.

    Catch'a on the battlefield.

No problem. The hardest stealth I have ever gone through is the first Splinter Cell but it's oh so good.
Chaos Theory is easier because now you can sound every alarm without failing out of a mission (in the first game it was generally, 3 alarms and game over) but to get 100% on every mission is quite a feat as well...especially if you play on Expert.

I think Conviction would be better suited to your tastes.....Ghost Recon Future Soldier takes Conviction's one man stealth into a 4 man stealth game..retaining the same flow and feel. If you liked sneaking about, silently killing enemies and doing the Sync Shots...you will love Conviction.

If you like systematically killing EVERYONE (and by everyone I mean every single NPC...the focus is on killing here) - Splinter Cell Conviction

If you like being uber sneaky and avoid killing - Splinter Cell Legacy (Go for Chaos Theory)

Buy both TBH....different games different shades of stealth..you can't go wrong. If you get fed up of killing all the time..shift to Chaos Theory for a slower more quite pace and vice versa. I think both are available on Steam..and there is a sale going on so......

Do it the right way and play the entire series in chronological order. This way, you can get introduced to the series as we all did. Plus, if you play SCC first, you may find it difficult going from those smooth controls to the aged controls of the earlier games. Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow are nearly exact in gameplay mechanics, controls, and graphics. Chaos Theory added a whole lot of depth and personality to the series and had fairly decent graphics for a PS2/Xbox game. Most fans do regard Chaos Theory as the best of the series. Double Agent is regarded as the least impressive (especially in my opinion). It had a terrible frame rate, which in-turn weakened the graphics that would have looked nice with a better frame rate. It's still worth playing though. Once you get to Conviction, you will feel more comfortable as it is much smoother and can be played at a fast pace. GRFS took a lot of cues from Conviction's gameplay.

If you're into multiplayer, Chaos Theory and Blacklist both had Spies vs Mercs (Pandora may have as well, i forget). This was basically a 2v2 online multiplayer where spies were 3rd person and mercs were 1st person. Conviction has Co-Op and Deniable Ops in which you play as one of two agents, Archer (NSA) and Kestrel (KGB) in a separate story that is tied into the single player campaign.

I agree. Play Splinter Cell 1 first. Splinter Cell 1 was pretty much the best/the best starter of a stealth series. If you want true stealth, play SC1. Learn the ropes and mechanics of the game. SC2 was pretty good as well. So you can move on to it once you're done the first one. CT was fun but it's not the best for me. If you want an SC game that really turns you around or put you inside tough situations with stealth while still fun, you can't go wrong with Double Agent. If you don't care about the graphics or sacrifice some decision gameplay, you can go for the old gen of SCDA. Or else you can just go for the next gen version, Xbox 360, PS3, PC. They are all very good games. I personally have SCs on consoles and PC. I have SC1-4 on PS2 and PC and SC5 on Xbox 360 and PC. lol Call me a Splinter Cell nerd lol. As for which ever SC game is impressive, it's pretty much reciprocal for me compared to others. You can always just jump ahead to Conviction but you may loose some storyline and may get confused. Either way, SC is a great series/franchise to get into and you can't miss it.

As for multiplayer, well, have faith finding servers for SCC, there's hardly anyone playing the game anymore. There still may be servers for CT but PT (SC2) servers seemed to be shut down for PC (xbox or old gen was shut down a long time ago). And DA has no players, the last time I checked when playing both on the xbox and PC. Servers seemed to be still up, maybe down, don't know if it is. We can always catch a game together if you are up for it.

The more I play SCC, the more I think SCC and SCB are more optimized for panther and assault. Playing ghost is not really a fun factor unlike the old SC games. For that matter, I think SCB should at least be played panther or assault (not over use). We all hope SCB is more classic since it is still in production but you can't change the fact that the series is taking this way. Therefore, you play it the way it's meant to be played. Though, I am not ruling out ghosting in SCB, it's possible and can be fun but the game is more optimized for panther/assault.
    Therefore:
SC1-4: Ghost player SCC and SCB: Panther/(Occasional)Assault
    Overall: GHOST PLAYER
