I hope its like the old games rogue spear, eagle watch

I want to see more stealthy game play like recons like the old first games. I would also like to see the tactical planning of the each mission. I think thats what made the game really good back than plus FPS was coming into play. I remember one mission in Rogue spear crystal Arc. i love the one among others i hope it will be like this.with the same or more cool tools like the heartbeat monitor.

I would love for them to revisit the pre-planning phase and true tactical nature of the earlier R6 games. But it's not gonna happen. Gamers anymore do not have the attention spans for stuff like that. They want loud noises, big explosions and button smashing mechanics. Maybe they could package some Ritalin with the next R6 as a pre-order bonus if they wanted to make a real R6 game.

You pointed out the real reason why games like Arma 2 will never do well on the console, and the real reason why most console gamers didn't like the Operation Flashpoint games. Console gamers always talk about wanting a realistic shooter or simulator and then when they get it they complain about it being too realistic, which is the gist of most of the complaints about Dragon Rising.

These games should be built and alpha/beta tested on PC and once they are working should be ported to Console.

The Games should have the planning and team selection phases as with the originals (all the parts that made them above the bog standard shooters of the time)

1st person rather than 3rd, do away with the 3rd person cover mode, add more stealth missions like in the original. infact, just re make Rogue Spear with better graphics and game play, tweak it a bit and bring back the lean and peek, test and release it on PC and give Patriots to the console players as to be honest, it is not even released yet and I don't think I want it. UBI have left too long without responding to us and I have no doubt that they will screw us PC players over again like they have done with every game in R6 and GR since taking over the Franchises, as I have stated before, they are releasing bog standard shooters that only really sell off the back of the R6 and GR names (Let me be clear, I still play Vegas and GRAW, I paid for them way back when so will continue to play them, they are ok games in their own right but that is as far as it goes)

I am off to play one of the myriad of available games that work and don't try to be something that they are not...

Or maybe, you know, the OPF games are not very good games in the first place and many players just didn't like them for their flaws?

I had this discussion in the Ground Branch thread. When it comes to the complaints of most of the console gamers with Dragon Rising, most of them shouldn't even be taken seriously, because the reasons why they didn't like it aren't even legitimate reasons. A common complaint that you'll see within all of their complaints is things like the emptiness of the levels for example. As I said in that thread, if Arma 2 was on the consoles all of them would be complaining about the exact same thing, because like the console versions of Operation Flashpoint, the maps in Arma 2 are just as empty where you may be running for miles and never see another living soul. The flaws that can be taken seriously are no worse than in any other game. But exaggerating the pros and cons of a game is typical of the video game community, so I'm not surprised.

    Case in Point:

If you don't like the Operation Flashpoint Arma games because its simply not your type of game then that's your business, its really not the type of game for most people anyway. When it comes down to it, what the average console gamer really wants is instant gratification. They want guns blazing and explosions as soon as or no more than five minutes into the match. I say five minutes tops because this is the attention span of the average gamer and movie goer. It is for reasons like this why I wouldn't blame companies like Bohemia Interactive if they decide they don't want to waste their time porting Arma 3 to the console market, or any of their games for that matter as all their games are PC only simulators.

That is a very juvenile generalization of console gamers from a small minority. Also, military sims are just as a niche on the PC as it is on any other platform. There is a reason Arma 2 wasn't doing to well until DayZ hit.

Well, hence why I said that games like Arma 2 aren't for most people, because the Arma and Operation Flashpoint games are in a league of their own. If they don't even appeal to most PC gamers then there is no way in hell it would do any better on the console market. So to those console gamers asking for an Arma 2 type of game, you can forget about it because for one, Bohemia Interactive knows that you have no idea what you are really asking for and the user response to Dragon Rising (which is as close to an Arma 2 type of game you'll ever get on these current consoles) shows that pretty well none of you would like it. The Day Z mod only proves my point. It shows that the only way they could possibly appeal to most people, especially console gamers, is by copying what Call of Duty has done. Its the type of action shooter most people are used to playing and the only type they will ever truly care to play, its quite obvious by now. The individual in the video I posted represents the console gamer archetype, and no time should be wasted trying to appeal to them. Its like what some said on the Ground Branch thread said, he should stick to Call of Duty.

We would never know if Arma would sell well on consoles since it never was/will be released onto them. This arguement about "if" or "will" is just pointless when talking about different platforms. Besides, the popularity of games like minecraft and witcher 2 on both console and PC show that players of both platforms are not so different than you think.

We're talking about two completely different types of games. Comparing Minecraft and witcher 2 to Arma 2 is like comparing apples and oranges. By reasonable induction, I know for a fact that Arma 2 would barely sale bread crums (I'm sure Bohemia knows as well) by comparing it to games that most closely resembles it, and that is the console versions of Operation Flashpoint, and no other game on the consoles come close to it. If most console gamers didn't like those games, then they sure as hell won't like Arma 2, and that's the bottom line. We're talking about a military simulator, not sandbox puzzle games and action adventure role playing games that have always been successful on the consoles. The console market has already been given enough chances with military simulators, don't be surprised if you never see another attempt again.
