Mouse stops working, have to kill & restart game process manually. Happens again.

So I just bought this game (Deluxe Version, on Steam). Kinda sucks because it seems buggy as crap. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Every time I run this game, it's only a matter of clicks before the mouse stops responding (I can still move the mouse cursor, I just can't click on any buttons on the game interface and get the intended result - I click and nothing happens). Allow me to describe more verbosely:

It seems to happen when a hot-tip pops up or if I sloppily click the edge of an icon of something in the interface (not every time, just sometimes). It's as if the interface gets confused about which layer I should be able to click at any given time. This only happens on the world-map or if I'm in a town. So far, it has not happened a single time during a battle. There doesn't seem to be any specific requirement as far as exactly how far along in the game I am. It seems to happen completely at random, any time the interface is displaying things on that first layer (like hot-tips or dialog).

This sort of behavior sound familiar to anyone? If so, is there a way to fix it so that the game is playable? Anyone know anything at all about this?

NOTE: I'm using the latest nvidia driver for my two Geforce 450 GTS (tried SLI enabled and disabled, happens on both).
